This is really weird. I had read some articles about detecting penumbra gradients from light reflections. The purpose being indirect room mapping. Seeing around corners or barriers using reflections.

If one could mask the source and detect the reflections of sound, maybe one could map the environment this way too.

This is it! You got it! thank you! One of the biggest problems is to match the phase on return. Of course if you went via a computer, sound programs could do this. But I really want to build analogue. Can you help me with this? I am really impressed you have identified one of the main problems. I do believe it can be overcome from looking at guitar pedals which do all sort of crazy things by altering phase. Can we talk in more detail on a private line?

. . .
So if a low frequency constant sound is produced and a microphone pics it up. I need to remove the original wave from the returning sound picked up by the mic. Does that make it any clearer?
What do you mean by "original wave?" You can filter at the original frequency, but a wave is not something you can collect like matter and use again. What if the reflecting object is moving toward you? The reflected sound will have a different frequency.

I posted the bat image tongue-in-cheek because it sounds like you want to do echo-location, or sonar. True?

You'll get a lot farther here is you explain what you're really trying to do. The electronics (and maybe software) for whatever you want has likely been done and is not hard to reproduce, but we're over 20 posts in and still have no real idea of what you want.

I've actually seen this sort of thing done with software applications, that is, if I understand correctly what Jontyleff is trying to achieve.

Oh ok, don't worry next time 'PB'. What does 'penurious' mean? And what's a 'teenage goff'? Sounds like something to aspire to Lol.
Hey wait a sec. MayB u that guy. U could help. . . can you?
I don't really need business partner, just a circuit diagram . . .

penurious adj. means you are offering a ridiculously small amount of money for what is a substantial engineering task.
goff n. British slang for silly or foolish person.

Based on what I have seen in this thread, the £200 you offer would not cover the time required to come to an understanding of what you want done. This sounds more like a reasearch project than a product development. If I were bidding on it, there is no way I would do it for a fixed price, it would be hourly. And your offer would not even cover 2 hours.

Just curious? Why do you want a circuit to do this? I’d like to know what the output signifies.

It might help in responding to your requirement. For instance, I can’t help but hypothesize that what you want is to calculate a distance or maybe detect an object in the vicinity of your device.

In the latter case, ultrasonic distance sensors are available commercially. Tied in with a microprocessor, you can locate any object in the area of the sensors range.

But I’m just imagining possibilities. What do you want?

Why do you want the outgoing tone to continue until an echo is received? Why not just send a short tone burst and wait for an echo (as in sonar, ultrasonic range-finding)?

Hi people thanks 4 being so interested I love this place. But as u can tell I am a total tourist. Don't speak the language. I have been looking at these circuit schemes it truly is a different language. I can c that it won't b easy 2 get u guys 2 help design a circuit but can u tell me what the language is 4.
So can I take a circuit diagram 2 a commercial circuit board printer and they print me what u need or is there many other stages in between
Do I have to design the physical look of the circuit or is the diagram enough?

Is it possible 2 design a circuit on paper with out building it first and then hand it over to some one to build and it will work?
Or is it that you design it then build it, it doesn't work back to the drawing board, tm back and forward until it work?

If you can't speak the language, have you ever tried using the words? Your "textspeak" for whatever language is hard for native English speakers to decipler.

First, to help you get an answer, DONT USE TEXT SPEAK.

You mentioned that you have funding. You’re going to need a lot. For example...

Yes, you can design a circuit on paper and hand it to a designer, who will design a PCB. BTW, $$$!

Then you will need to produce the board in small quantities to test. $$

Who is going to specify the test criteria? $$

If you can’t test it, hire someone to test it for you. $$

Maybe it will work; maybe it won’t. Hire someone else to modify the circuit and then someone else to re-design the PCB. $$$

You might have to modify your test scenario to account for any failures. $$

Repeat the above process until you have a final design. n x $$$

Who is going to assemble the boards? Remember, you mention hundreds of thousands. This is above and beyond the cost of making the PCB board. $,$$$

Who is going to test the boards before you sell them. You need a quality assurance department. You could hire someone to test hundreds of thousand boards. $,$$$

Do you have a certified quality assurance test plan? Perhaps the company or person that did your test plan can write this for you. At an additional cost. $$

Now you’ve sold several thousand of your device. 10% of your clients report at least one problem. How are you going to support this? $$$

None of this is going to be done for 200 pounds.

Up front, you need to understand the WHOLE process. Not just the product.
