I've watched Crazies from all sides (Antifa to Nazi) battle it out in the streets of Portland. Crazy has no political affiliation.

They will all get sick and possibly die from CV. That's what's really important now, not some political rambling.

City authorities in Moscow are rolling out new digital "social monitoring" tools targeting the public, after what officials say were constant violations of the city's quarantine imposed this week to fight the spread of the new coronavirus.

Under restrictions in place since Monday, most of the city's 12 million residents must remain indoors, barring a few exceptions — like trips to the supermarket or pharmacy, taking out the trash or briefly walking the dog.

But starting Thursday, Muscovites will have their movements tracked through a mandatory app required on their smartphones. Don't have one? The city says it will lend out devices.
...
The new tools will merge with existing street cameras and face recognition software to quickly identify residents who stray from their homes and/or quarantines, say authorities.

Unbelievable ... This post belongs also in the privacy thread...

On a side note, I'm willing to bet that this sort of restriction will be tried to be pushed as permanent, to have greater control of the population... I hope I'm wrong.
OMG! Potentially permanent erosion of personal autonomy in Russia? -- Ya could've knocked me over with a feather!;)

We all know the app will be hacked and pwned in 5 seconds on the street. It's trivial to spoof GPS type cell phone tracking.
Yebut not so much implanted tracking modules (as they'll surely get round to sooner than later!) - I'm put in mind of an old flick wherein a penitentiary --instead of bars and walls-- fitted the inmates with explosive collars -- stray too far afield and... Better not to dwell upon it!

Best regards

A interesting interpretation of data.

I thought he did a pretty good job. One thing he touched on in the caveats was the quality of the underlying data, but still he seemed to take data from China at face value. I don't know that I'm really ready to do that, but I do generally believe that they really have gotten it beat back.

That's always been my fear that it's nearly impossible to keep R0 close to zero in general populations with low herd immunity without continuous, brutal isolation before a cure is created. Eventually IMO we will strike a societal and economic balance by testing those with antibodies and releasing them so the virus limits its spread in a hostile environment of immunity.

If he knew that, then he has my respect. It means he sacrificed his career for the sake of his crew....
In my eyes, this Captain is a real hero:

A video posted to Twitter shows sailors chanting "Cap-tain Cro-zier" as he disembarked. The user who uploaded the Twitter video captioned it, in part: "Wrongfully relieved of command but did right by the sailors."

It was bound to happen. Court places ankle monitors on those who refuse to self-quarantine.
Louisville is forcing unwilling coronavirus patients to self-isolate. Is it right?

None of this is right. At one point somewhere this was compared to a war. A war on a virus. Sacrifices are made during a war. People are willing to die to either make life better or return to what was normal. Currently we see further erosion of rights, constant flip floping on plans going forward and zero data and transparancy.

My grandmothers are 80 and 90. The 90 year old lived through the seige of Leningrad. She does not deserve to be separated from her family. She will be the first one to tell you that if it is her time to go, so be it. What will be thw outcome of a year of forced social distancing and isolation? Of limited medical services for young people with managable conditions? How many 20-40 year olds will die after this is over due to other factors? Will that be looked as preventable deaths if response was different? These are some things to consider as the cities enforce penalties and slap anklets on people.
