Fortunately we have a couple of options here, one is they can be dropped off at any local fire-station where they are then donated to local charity book sale drives.
The other is local book swap hutch in peoples yards.

Our local library collects books from people and quarterly, holds a book sale of them to raise funds for the library. I’m on their committee.

It's incredible seeing how we're well into the 21st century and there are still numerous so-called democracies that are more akin to monarchies than anything else.
Well...I think autocracies might be closer to the mark. Monarchies are associated with a divine right to rule. The modern version is just who is first to pick up all the marbles.

England drew the line in 1215 with the Magna Carta!

Thailand is going through some compromise by the current monarch.

"The Thai King made his first public comments on the pro-democracy demonstrations that have gripped the country for more than four months in an exclusive rare joint interview with CNN and Channel 4 News during a royal function at the Grand Palace in Bangkok on Sunday.
Asked about what he would say to the protesters who have been on the streets calling for reform, King Vajiralongkorn told CNN "no comment," before adding, "We love them all the same. We love them all the same. We love them all the same."

Shades of King Arthur Re: Monty Python and the Holy Grail! :D

Our county libraries are mostly closed but these “Little Libraries” have popped up some places. In riding my bike around I’ve found several that I can check. Some have books more interesting to me than others. I really enjoyed reading “The Maltese Falcon” that was in a local swim club’s box. Especially because of the local connection. San Francisco, right. Others have been more hit and miss. But they are a place where I can browse a couple books and pick one. I am pretty good about dropping that book back into another box to sort of keep things moving. Keeps me moving around too.

Looking back at US history, we started as an Aristocracy although they called it a Democracy. He who had money made the rules. And those who were allowed by law to vote on those rules had to meet 3 necessary criteria, White, Male, and Land Owner. And I'm not entirely convinced the third criterion should have been eliminated. Not much different today in that who has the most money to spend/donate and hire Lobbiests makes the rules by spending it to influence those who vote on proposed laws for their benefactor's benefit.

Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Clause and Votes can be bought.

Minority rule has had a long series of dismal outcomes, and yet it continues to try paddling upstream.
Ask the Koch brothers if they are happy with the megabucks they have wasted.

That is funny given the amount of books on various "banned" lists as they are deemed to be offensive to one or another group of people...

We have a large, grand, recently built Museum of Human Rights, Recently staff were told "not to talk about pregnancy or abortion, in addition to censoring LGBT content, during some tours involving religious schools, according to emails obtained by CBC News".

Shades of Basil Fawlty. If you have a German tour group 'Don't mention the war"!

https://scoop.upworthy.com/teacher-explains-why-she-doesnt-assign-homework

She explained her reasons behind not demanding anything more from her students than their time in class every day in a TikTokvideo that has now gone viral on social media. "I'm getting a lot of comments... and a lot of people coming at me, like other teachers, saying I'm not doing my job for not assigning homework," White says in the video. "But there's no proof that homework is going to make them better students in my class. I respect their time outside of class. They work hard for me all day, they don't need to go home and do more homework."

When I taught HS, I had 2 different teachers in the room next door that had 0 classroom control. Made it very difficult to conduct a class for all the noise coming from the class next door. And all of their students, every one of them, made A's with no homework and I don't think their textbooks left the lockers. Both were supposedly teaching history and not just babysitting. And this was in two different private academies where the parents were paying to have their children educated. One teacher lasted only 2 years and the other was kept on because her girls Volleyball team was successful. Total waste of an educational experience.
