Our local library collects books from people and quarterly, holds a book sale of them to raise funds for the library. I’m on their committee.Fortunately we have a couple of options here, one is they can be dropped off at any local fire-station where they are then donated to local charity book sale drives.
The other is local book swap hutch in peoples yards.

It's incredible seeing how we're well into the 21st century and there are still numerous so-called democracies that are more akin to monarchies than anything else.@cmartinez -- What you throw out in your trash could come back to bite you in a place like that. Don't throw out any cartoons that might offend the Dear Leader. I think they have a law against insulting him.

Well...I think autocracies might be closer to the mark. Monarchies are associated with a divine right to rule. The modern version is just who is first to pick up all the marbles. It's incredible seeing how we're well into the 21st century and there are still numerous so-called democracies that are more akin to monarchies than anything else.
Looking back at US history, we started as an Aristocracy although they called it a Democracy. He who had money made the rules. And those who were allowed by law to vote on those rules had to meet 3 necessary criteria, White, Male, and Land Owner. And I'm not entirely convinced the third criterion should have been eliminated. Not much different today in that who has the most money to spend/donate and hire Lobbiests makes the rules by spending it to influence those who vote on proposed laws for their benefactor's benefit.I think autocracies might be closer to the mark.
That is funny given the amount of books on various "banned" lists as they are deemed to be offensive to one or another group of people...It's incredible seeing how we're well into the 21st century and there are still numerous so-called democracies that are more akin to monarchies than anything else.

"But there's no proof that homework is going to make them better students in my class. I respect their time outside of class. They work hard for me all day, they don't need to go home and do more homework."
