Things that go "BEEP!" in the night...

I'm starting to wonder if it may be a smoke detector in the adjacent apt. unit, complaining about a weak battery. Sure sounds like a smoke detector, but it isn't mine.
I think you're on the right track. Good excuse to chat with your neighbor. Maybe they hear it, too. Maybe they died a week ago and need you to find their body.

You DID say 'Running 6 of them for 30yrs' :p
Max.
Computers have been running for 30 years. Light bulbs have been running for 30 years. I don't know why, "running" means no part of what has been running has changed for 30 years. If I meant running the same smoke detectors, I would have said, "the same".

If you were making a joke, I want you to, "up your game".
If you really believe that, "running" means, "without cease, from the moment it started, with no maintenance and no repairs" I want you to understand:upload_2017-6-16_19-33-37.jpeg

That happened here once. The dishwasher was just short of finishing a cycle when someone opened the door looking for something, didn't find it, and almost re-closed the door.
The beeping went on , every 30 seconds(?), all afternoon and things were said that could only be put aside with effort.
Almost the same thing happened to me, but it was a clothes dryer. Apparently it has two beeps: a warning beep and a done beep. I mistook the latter for the former. The clothes were dry enough, but the damn thing beeped for a week!

That happened to me once... turns out it was an old pager complaining about a dying battery:

We called those devices "Beepers" down here, btw... of course, everyone knows they went the way of the dinosaurs... but I wonder if there's still a niche market out there for them somewhere in the world...

Interesting question. I remember when pagers were the "in" thing with drug dealers, but cell phones seem to have wrecked that market. (I never had a pager and do not know how I would send one a text message.) The question remains: Is there any corner of the globe where pagers are still of any value? Why not? There are still corners of the world where a donkey cart has value.

Answer: yes.

I'm a bad person... I hate it when that happens to me, but I can't help laughing when it happens to someone else... :D
I'm making a bit of progress: I can tell from out here in the living room that the beeping is coming from the back-- either from the workroom itself or from the apt. unit next door, on the other side of the workroom wall. So I gathered up all the remaining electronics gadgets that could possibly be making the noise and hauled it all out to the living room and plunked it down beside my computer chair.

Nada. The beeping is still coming from the back, so I'm going to assume it's my neighbor's smoke detector. He's away right now, so I'll just have to put up with it until he gets back.

I sincerely hope you find the culprit before it breaks your sanity...
What's this "before" stuff? My sanity went bye-bye a long time ago.

Are you going to take a wack at it ? :D
Nah. Being about 99% sure the beeping isn't coming from any of my electronic gadgets, I'll probably be able to just ignore it from here on.

I'll tell ya, though, what IS hard to ignore is when he and his GF are enjoying a "Cialis Moment." They make a LOT of noise...

Can you place your ear on the wall when you hear it? Or does it happen too fast? I kept hearing a motor running in the back room of my new (to me) house. It is my office where I have a couple of computers. Figuring it was one of the computers causing some type of vibration I shut everything down. Still a motor sound. I finally started tracing it to the outside wall. Placed my ear on the wall and I could here it really loud. Then I realized it is the vent fan in the attic. I might replace this fall after things cool down. Problem is, it is on the far end of a very low ceiling attic. :(

Have you tried timing the occurrences? If you can predict the next occurrence you can be in various parts of the room to hear where it is coming from. An easier or more scientific method would get an app that listens for sound and records. If it does not have a sound level graph already then I will bet you can find one of those too. Place the tablet in part of the room where you think you the sound is occurring. Check the log for the beep, record results, move tablet, repeat.

If you don't want to make waves by pounding on the wall when you hear them then ring the doorbell and have an excuse ready each time. ;)
