Hi everyone! Chris the newbie here so bear with........... Have built a 16 channel disco lighting controller to drive some lightboxes from the dark ages - used TTL into optoislaters into triacs to drive the 240v lamps no probs. So 16 lives 1 common neutral. Now have built some LED boxes that use 12v DC strips and was wondering instead of using 16 indiviual 12v drivers is there any way I can switch the DC directly from the TTL (or optos). Reckon max current per channel would be no more than 4A. (Yes I know thats a 60A power supply but still cheaper than 16 small ones!) Any ideas welcome!

 

You need a logic level MOSFET for each channel. Of course you can use a single 12V supply.


What is the output voltage if the TTL outputs when high and low?

 

Hi Bob - thanks for quick response. Any part nos for MOSFETs? (ideally in a TO220 package). As for TTL outputs guessing somewhere around 0v low and 4.8V high (but will measure tomorrow when in the workshop)

 

A good option for a logic level MOSFET could be a FQP30N06L N Channel MOSFET used for low side switching.
