These are maturing almost daily and I am really happy with them. Lots of flavor and quite hot, but usable hot, not ghost-pepper hot.

If I'm not mistaken, that's what we down here call "chile de árbol" (pepper from a tree). And as you say, they're respectfully hot, but also quite tasty. Plenty of all types of delicious sauces can be made with them. One that comes to mind is vinegar-peanut sauce ... it's quite good, if a bit high on the calories.

I wish I knew the actual species/variety, but I don't. These were grown by me from seeds from Italy via Canada. They are referred to as "peperoncino" which is probably just some kind of basket term.

But, yeah they are tasty! I put a couple in a small bottle of good olive oil and the other day I but some in a pasta sauce. I see some beef chili in my future :)

Have never tried vinegar-peanut sauce, but feel free to email me some - sounds good.

Oh man, what beautiful sights! ... I much prefer mountains and lakes over beaches and waves. It's much cooler and calmer.
I agree.

There is another mix (which we lack in our country) sea and mountains. The closest for us is the Beagle Channel in the very South.

Our first night, as we laid gasping for air in our sleeping bags (the lake you see is at 11,500'), a lightning storm came through at about 2AM. High winds, hail and driving rain. I like the mountains and love this particular spot but I'm not sure it's "calmer" than a trip to the beach!

It's just that I hate hot weather, and especially when I have to spread a pound of greasy creams all over myself just to be outdoors ... all sweaty and uncomfortable ... yuck!

The clean crisp air is definitely one reason I keep going back. The kids all had to be lubed up with 'greasy creams' to reduce sunburn from the intense alpine sun. But yeah, most of our bodies were covered and it was pretty much only our noses that got fried.

A very strange creature whose image was captured by my wife. It looks like a bumblebee, but it has a single antenna on its head! ... it's a Unicornbee!

A few more pics from wifey ... a soaring hummingbird, a cat's ear, a boxfull of kittens ... and the insects that she loves so much to get snapshots of:

People in the Midwest know all about Door County (WI), but I don't think the rest of the country is much aware of it. If you ever get the chance to visit, I recommend it. This is from the Lake Michigan side of the peninsula, as opposed to the Green Bay side.
