I haven’t posted in a bit, so here’s some recent shots as an update.

staring for a few seconds calculated his best bet was an orderly retreat.

Bald eagle absconding with a fist from the river and enraging a few other fish-eaters, particularly a kingfisher who gave chase—though his objections must have been purely philosophical because that fish is bigger than he was.

House sparrow—formerly known as an “English sparrow” thanks to their origin (at least in relation to the US), In the 1800’s these invasive, aggressive, tiny killers were purposely released here from England. It didn’t take too long to regret it. These birds breed like... sparrows, and they will invade existing nesting sites evicting the occupants, even if it means killing them.

Osprey—a fish-eater like the eagle, and theoretically a competitor. Around here there are a lot of fish so no fights to the death in the sky, at least not at this time. Updates as news happens...

Of course, no-one ever serves Mexican food outside of Mexico!
Lol!

Sorry to inform you, Ian, but paella is not a Mexican dish! ... Paella is originally from Spain. And of course we also make it here since we inherited many valuable cultural things from them.

Paella has many variants depending on the region from which it originated, but it's always based on rice, saffron and seafood of some sort such as clams and shrimp. And then people will add their personal touch in the form of chicken, pork, and/or a spicy kind of sausage called chistorra among many other things.

And Spain being a neighbor with France, of course that one would expect them to have a few things in common. It's just that this is the first time I've seen French paella ... I definitely need to get me some of that!
