On the subject of degaussing, I used to like doing that on the old CRT monitors.... it was like a mini earthquake on my desk. Although these days in NZ, we get pretty of real quakes every day...

Hehe, yea, our old tube TV we had when I was little had a purple discoloration in the corner from that...

I seem to remember a bunch of knobs on my grandmas old TV (oh how I wish I had an old TV to rip into... all those parts...), but I've never had a TV with anything but buttons. Our newest TV doesn't even have those.

One of the televisions we had when I was younger had a manual rotary tuner. No pre-set positions at all: it worked just like tuning a radio, with the added complication that you were tuning to get an acceptable picture as well as sound. It was not a great set even by the standards of those days, and the picture controls might need to be readjusted more than once in the course of an evening as the set heated up.

My poor old mother could never really master it, and she was very pleased when the next set we got had push button tuning, and a picture which would actually stay in lock.

 

I'm going to go with "Georacer is pulling my leg" LOL. My wife got this one. "It's one of those LEAD things, you know, little lights... walking up a path".

Nostalgia...

Horizontal and vertical hold, color intensity and tint, seperate VHF and UHF tuners with fine tuning knobs, sound volume, and sometimes a tone control. In the back we adjusted the FM coil to get the sound right, red, green, and blue drive and red, green, and blue brightness(?), ground a pin and adjust the color oscillator so it synchronized with the least amount of feedback, same with the horizontal oscillator, CRT anode voltage and focus voltage, about 16 adjustments to get the R, G, and B lines to track together on the screen, at least 2 tabs on the yoke to get the "purity" right, and probably a few I forgot.

 

@ 12, Adjust the coils to bend the lines at the outer edge of the screen.
When you made one turn it would change some thing else,you could
never get a head..no perfect convergence.

crumbs, I was just thinking of the good ol' fashioned paper version!! I guess if enough folks wanted it in an electronic version and I could do it easily enough, I'd be happy to....
