So I'm having trouble with my Golf not starting and after much testing I've put down to a faulty ECU so opened it up and found what looks like a faulty resistor. 4 strip code indicates 21ohms and +_10% tolerance but i can't find a suitable replacement. Its from the early 90s but i'd like to think I could still get replacement bits.

Am I wrong?
Also I noticed its labelled as DR1 instead of just R does that mean it's not just a standard resistor?

I think it's actually a solenoid. It's now just a case of finding a replacement... I think. I found this video and the guy says it.s a resistor and a guy in the comments seems to be sure its a solenoid.

Found it. Inductor would probably be a better way of describing it. Ordered and en route. 22uh 10% tolerance.

The resin coating looks like a chunk knocked off which suggests a drastic event, the P6K surge clamp diode nearby suggests it may be in a hazard prone part of the circuitry.

There's probably more damage than just the bit you can see.

I'm suspecting that. I think the diodes might need changing. The caps are fine. I'll order up the diodes on the off chance. Hopefully I can sort it with that.

Hi, Did you manage to repair the ecu?

Hi Cyraz1,
