Appears to be a simple 1 contact input only.

I can only see output connections from the PLC to the relay. Where is the input coming from?

 

The PLC is receiving a confirmation input (output from the S.R.)
One shows a P.B. start with a confirmation fed back to the other input.
It describes the various sequences in the ref sheet.

I'm not sure i really follow exactly whats happening with that if the safety relay is giving an input to the PLC from its output then what is the output from the PLC going to control

 

The PLC is receiving the status of the S.R. in order that it will process other non-critical functions accordingly.
The S.R. itself is controlling critical power sources itself directly.
There are many versions of safety relays that operate in all kinds of conditions.
