I like the idea in your link to the inductor tester. I think I will build something based on the idea.

Inductors very seldom fail, unless they are physically damaged or burned up. With some study it should be possible to be able to estimate the power capacity of a switch supply inductor. But for those supplies with a multiple winding tramsformer the estimating may not come close.

I was referencing the estimating based on visual inspection method. Using an electronic measuring system each winding would be measured by itself, since they are connected to separate parts of the circuit.
