Also, one local Covid related death of a young man, he didn't die from Covid but from Ivermectin poisoning after taking a horse dose of it from Tractor Supply to treat himself.
"He died the way he lived...free of the intestinal parasites that can afflict cows, sheep and other livestock animals."

Police raided a field hospital in central Thailand after reports that the Covid-19 patients were doing drugs and having orgies. A staff member at the field hospital in Samut Prakan, just southwest of Bangkok, told police the patients engaging in group sex and getting into fights where some patients were injured.

Officers from the Internal Security Operations Command dressed in personal protective gear raided the Samut Pra Ruamjai 5 where around 1,000 patients infected with Covid-19 are being treated. No illegal drugs were found, but officers did find 23 cartons of cigarettes and electronic cigarettes, which they say, were smuggled into the facility.

It is like a prison with cardboard beds, except you wear pajamas all the time. Note the lack of air conditioning in this tropical country. All this is free to the patient.

The men and women were separated after the incident was reported.

More setbacks. Japan discards over a million doses over concerns of contamination.

https://news.yahoo.com/contaminant-moderna-vaccines-suspected-metallic-005350831.html

Japan on Thursday suspended the use of 1.63 million doses https://www.reuters.com/world/asia-...ne-doses-over-contamination-nikkei-2021-08-25 shipped to 863 vaccination centres nationwide, more than a week after the domestic distributor, Takeda Pharmaceutical, received reports of contaminants in some vials.

The contaminant found in a batch delivered to Japan is believed to be a metallic particle, Japanese public broadcaster NHK reported, citing health ministry sources.

[ ... ]

NHK, in a report published late on Thursday, cited health ministry sources as saying the contaminant was believed to be a particle that reacted to magnets and was therefore suspected to be a metal. Moderna has described it as "particulate matter" that did not pose a safety or efficacy issue.
The University of Almería has claimed that graphene oxide was detected however there is still currently MUCH dispute over the issue.

It could of course just be some sort of supply-chain problem. Even so we do need to be taking quality control much more seriously. As a matter of redundancy multiple random samples should be tested on a regular basis (at least up to the point of administration).

So today I took Charlotte our Golden Retriever in for grooming. Pretty cool as I drag in a dust mop and get back a nice looking dog. Our groomer is part of a boarding kennel located behind our veterinarian service (animal clinic). We have been trying to call the clinic as along with summer and high heat and humidity the goldens with their floppy ears tend to develop ear infections. So I asked Ted who works in the boarding and grooming area why the clinic was closed? The guy was frazzled and beat up. Told me they can't get people wanting to work. Heck, everywhere I go I see endless "help wanted" and "now hiring" signs. This is what happens when you pay people more to sit at home than actually go to work. Fortunately we have a 24/7 emergency veterinary clinic nearby so I called them. Fortunately they took Charlotte in and gave me meds. They also told me their business has been booming since our normal clinic apparently is not alone. Many businesses are running understaff and reduced hours since they can't find people willing to work.

The schools have become another COVID nightmare. We started with a return to classroom and within a week or two many have reverted to the "virtual" classroom where many kids are not learning anything. However, they will be pushed through all under the name of COVID. They are in for a shocking reality check when they enter the real world.

Yeah the pandemic has had rippling ramifications in almost all aspects of life and business.
For example .. and of course just one of many-many...
There are several very large container ships off the coast of California that can not dock to unload because there is a backup in the ship unloading process from the ships that were there first because of labor problems associated with the pandemic. Apparently not enough workers left to unload them fast enough to allow the next wave to dock. Some shipments will be delayed by as much as 30 days.
Then there is another ship that was supposed to unload in China which was refused port entry because ONE of the crew members had the virus. The ship was forced to return which delayed the unloading by two months.

So there are some problems that creep up because this pandemic affects so many people and businesses that normally work like clockwork. The virus is like one big wrench thrown into the gears and that stops everything from turning normally.

There are a really huge number of ways the medical professionals are trying to beat this thing from vaccines to treatments even as advanced as nano technology, but so far nothing has reached us yet and even when it does it will have to be widespread in order to be effective globally.

All these complications tells me we still have a bit of a wait on our hands before we see normal life again.

How does that work or apply to this situation? To get the stay at home money you also needed to be on unemployment. Unless things have change since the one and only time I was on unemployment, if you refuse to go back to work when called you are dropped. Getting dropped from unemployment stops your stay home money too since it was paid through unemployment.

I think the better reason people are posting the hiring signs is those that wanted to work found better paying jobs, not that they are getting some kind of free money. And those that don't really want to work won't work for the little bit of money most places want to pay.

Yes, and I agree. However, with a focus locally here in Ohio:

Claims specialists will apply the "reasonable person standard," when an otherwise bright-line rule does not exist, to determine whether good cause exists for refusing an offer of suitable work.

Good Cause: pursuant to the Governor’s Executive Order Number 2020-24D, during COVID-19, "good cause" for refusing suitable work can include any one of the following:
  1. A medical professional’s recommendation that an individual not return to work because he/she falls into a category that is considered "high risk" for contracting COVID-19 by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and the employer cannot offer teleworking options.
  2. The employee is 65 years of age or older.
  3. Tangible evidence of a health and safety violation by the employer that does not allow the employee to practice social distancing, hygiene and wearing protective equipment.
  4. Potential exposure to COVID-19 and a prescribed quarantine imposed by a medical or health professional.
  5. Staying home to care for a family member who is suffering from COVID-19 or subject to a prescribed quarantine imposed by a medical or health professional.
Reasonable Person Standard:"Reasonable person standard" is the standard by which someone who exercises average care, skill and judgment views each benefit fact pattern to determine whether good cause exists to refuse an offer of suitable work.Suitable Work:"Suitable work" is appropriate employment for the individual, taking into consideration such things as the individual’s age, education level, work experience and physical fitness for work. Suitability of work is established based upon conditions including, but not limited to, the following:
  • Prior Training and Work Experience – The work is in line with what the individual was doing or was trained to do. There is a strong presumption that if the work the individual previously performed was suitable, it is suitable when offered again.
  • Wages and Benefits – A review of the total pay and benefit package to determine if it is substantially similar to the previously performed work.
  • Travel Distance – Whether the distance to the job is within the customary commuting pattern for the applicant’s occupation and the area of residence.
  • Shift and Hours – The shift of hours offered is characteristic of the occupation in the locality offered.
  • Health and Physical Fitness – Whether the individual is physically able to perform the job.
  • Health and Safety – Whether the health and safety precautions recommended during the COVID-19 transition are being followed.
Additionally the unemployment benefit has been extended from 6 months to one year and in some cases longer. Getting a note from a doctor is not much of an issue. Ohio did suspend the $300 a week government subsidy but other benefits still exist. Cedar Point is paying summer help kids $20 an hour, not bad money for a good many. The result is Cedar Point increases ticket sales a buck or two and all the other employers in the area can't get summer help, like small business restaurants. Anyway, the idea being as long as you make it worthwhile for people not to work they won't work and getting around "the system" is no problem at all.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/outl...srael-hospitalization-rates-simpsons-paradox/
Remember that a lot of Israelis are vaccinated, around 80 percent of the adult population. That’s important. If everyone were vaccinated, then all hospitalized people would be vaccinated — and that obviously wouldn’t mean vaccination was useless. In real-life Israel, as of Aug. 15 — using Morris’s summary of official data — 301 fully vaccinated people had an illness severe enough to require hospitalization. They represented just 53 out of every million fully vaccinated Israelis. At the same time, 214 hospitalized people were not vaccinated. Those people made up a much bigger fraction of the smaller population of unvaccinated people: 164 out of every million. So an unvaccinated Israeli is about three times as likely to end up in the hospital as their vaccinated compatriot.
Compare the situation in Israel with that in Oklahoma, whose weekly epidemiology and surveillance report gives an admirably thorough breakdown of the state of the pandemic. In Oklahoma, almost a third of people over 65 remain unvaccinated, a far higher proportion than in Israel. That means there’s a huge reservoir of Oklahomans who enjoy neither the protection of youth nor mRNA technology. And that results in a lot of hospitalization in unvaccinated people. So in Oklahoma, fewer than 1 in 10 people hospitalized with covid-19 are vaccinated. That makes the vaccine look better at a glance than the statistics from Israel. But from the standpoint of public health, you’d still rather be in Tel Aviv than Tulsa.
https://www.talkofnews.com/2021/08/...being-fully-vaccinated-now-means-three-shots/

In Israel, Being Fully Vaccinated Now Means Three Shots

Holders of Israel’s vaccine passports must get a third dose of the Pfizer -BioNTech vaccine within six months of their second dose, or lose the so-called green pass that allows them more freedom.

“We are updating what it means to be vaccinated,” said Israel’s coronavirus czar, Salman Zarka, at a press conference Sunday unveiling the new policy.

A study released by the Israeli health ministry on Sunday found that within 12 days, recipients of a third shot were 10 times less likely to become severely ill and 11 times less likely to become infected than people who had received their second dose five months earlier.

Israeli health officials say they don’t know whether additional boosters, beyond the third dose, will be needed. But they are moving aggressively to get as many people as possible vaccinated with a third shot, as the more contagious Delta variant of the virus spreads. All Israelis over the age of 12 are now eligible to receive a booster if five months have passed since their second shot.
It's time to triple tap that virus.

On a similar note, my wife and I both got letters from Ohio Jobs and Family Services last week. Telling us to be prepared to pay back any excess unemployment benefits both state and the federal ones. We have both been retired for over 10 years.
See, they are right on top of things. :)

It seems be it state or federal government they can screw up a wet dream. Heck, just take a look at COVID and how things seem to change daily as to what works and what doesn't. OK, maybe not day to day but week to week. I just got a letter from the VA. They are apparently not aware I have had both shots. They know I had the first but not the second? Wife and I received both through the same University Hospital System. They also always ask me about any desire to commit suicide or if I have a desire to hurt others. Think I will tell them government bureaucracy is pushing me to the edge. :)

Unemployment is weird. You pay the insurance year after year. Then when you need it, it barely pays for rice and beans. Teachers and other contract worker are ineligible. If you don't show up for work you get fired "for cause" or if you flat out quit you can't collect. I'm puzzled as to just what benefit it really is? I guess all the money gets spent on building unemployment offices and hiring staff cause the sure isn't any real money for those that need it.
