I do wish we could revisit that rule about flaming. Is it really prudent to exercise restraint in calling an idiot an idiot? How else will they learn that they are an idiot and take steps to correct that deficiency? I say by coddling them we are only hurting them. And if we're going to hurt them, I'd at least like to have some fun while we're at it.

This comment is not related to your action against LG, which I was a little surprised was posted here.

@Wendy
We are all aware that you believe there is no double standard regarding members being blunt in their responses, yet many of the adults on the forum believe there is one. The vigor with which you deny it, and the threaten actions for bringing the matter to discussion run contrary to the claimed openness of this forum.

First of all, what is wrong with a double standard? Aren't Moderators given a little more leeway than established members? Doesn't application of common sense and judgement lead to having different standards in our everyday lives?

Second, if you refuse to allow discussion of the matter, then there is no need to deny the subject of the matter. Just say the matter is not open for discussion.

Best regards, John

I will keep it simple, if you think we are being excessive or unfair, you can leave. The moderators will do our best, but second guessing us is not helpful.

Everyone thinks the rules apply to the other guy. They do, but they also apply to you too (I speak in a general sense, not specifically to you).

We do use a strategy here, and I think membership would be surprised how much we discuss situations, both with users and specific posts. As I said in the initial post, we try for a light touch, but lately it is getting to be impossible. No one, least of me, likes being dictatorial, but at some point we have to say enough. The alternative is for me to chuck it and move on. I do not plan on doing this.

If you want to continue this discussion with the moderating staff via PM, feel fee. PM me, and I will open the discussion with the rest of the guys. This is open to everyone.

Let's not drag this thread off topic, it is too important for that.

Now, you hit my hot button. I see no reason why replying to an old thread is patently wrong. Threads don't lose their relevance just because of their date of origin.
Actually we have gone over this in detail. You obviously do not agree. but it is a core decision made before I came on the scene, and one I agree with. If you want to revisit this subject again, open a new thread.

If your first choice is to become offended by someone's choice of words, reach for the dictionary to ensure you have the requisite knowledge to understand the poster.
So what about when someone does that only to find out the poster is the one who has no clue about the correct meaning of the words they used then goes on the hyper defensive about who's correct when the standard accepted definitions are posted in a response. o_O

I can't think of any better word than idiot other than troll. :oops:

Might I suggest that even a modicum of education is more effective than any amount of denigration? --- Just Sayin';):)

Hey guys, can someone refresh my aging memory? Just what was the topic of this thread from which we are not supposed to stray without getting our knuckles rapped?

John

I just deleted a post from LGM. He feels we have double standards. I am not going to let this thread degrade like so many others. And from him, I will not take anything I perceive as slightly out of line. Or to put it another way, I am not taking any more guff from him.

@Little Ghostman
Reply to this at your own risk. Next time is 7 Days. You also have considerably less slack than the first time.

I posted this to state what my views are. I put it before the staff for peer review first. Everyone on the staff is on board with it.
You proved my point nicely by deleting the post, clearly the chances of any balance or equal application of the rules is non existent, while your a moderator or unable to act in a reasonable way make the ban permanent, you might not believe this but forums need people more than people need forums.

There are too many forums out there for me to worry about a ban here.

My gut feeling is in the long run I will be around alot longer than you, mentally I honestly think you are not going to handle whats ahead and I can wait
