Why can't people get the right forum?

It just bewilders me me what people are thinking when posting to a sub form. The one that seems to get abused the worst is test and measurement. This forum should be reserved for the purpose stated.

What do these threads have anything to do with test equipment other than you might use test equipment to troubleshoot?

Electronic Resources also gets a lot of abuse.

What are people thinking? Do they think before they post? I am sure we have all posted the wrong forum by accident from time to time but I think some people just aren't reading the purpose of the subforum

Not sure what could be done about this. The mods already have a big job and I am not sure if I would want them to keep moving threads. Besides the thread stub is still left behind.

@spinnaker, I'd give your post a dozen "likes" if only I could. Spot on!

My guess they do this for the same reason(s) they don't read device data sheets, or app notes, or user manuals, or our Terms of Service, nor do they try to find information through Google or look in Wikipedia before posting here. Stupidity? Ignorance? Laziness? Lack of resourcefulness? Who knows.

My own pet peeve is students failing to use the Homework Help subforum for posting their requests for assistance, and instead scattering their plaintive cries for help throughout the other subforums. I don't think this can be entirely ascribed to stupidity, because Homework Help doesn't appear until well down the list of subforums on the main page and many requestors probably don't bother to scroll down that far before finding what they think is a suitable place to post their question.

In my opinion, Homework Help should appear right at the very top of the list, and the subforum description should carry a VERY clear warning against posting requests for schoolwork assistance in any of the other subforums. Also, I'm not sure how clearly the phrase "homework help" comes across; I've seen people, upon being admonished about posting in the wrong subforum, say "But this isn't homework; it's for a school project." Perhaps it should be renamed "Help With Schoolwork."

The Projects forum is one which incorrectly gets a lot of posts from students who have been assigned a 'project'. It might help if there were a suitable warning in LARGE TEXT right by the forum heading.

Even more confusing is that there are two separate sub-forums (I had thought there was only one, until I decided to check Alec_t’s post)

To a newbie, just from the sub-forum names, where would you post?

Good idea. Something like "This forum is NOT for school assignment projects."

In some cases I think it's because they know we won't just solve their problem in the Homework Help section, so they think they can con us into doing that in another sub-forum if we don't know it's homework ( I also like the name Schoolwork better).

It's not surprising to me. Someone not familiar with electronics would be confused as to what sub-forum to post on. I can see and understand the confusion.

I can not understand picky intolerance. Does it ruin the whole day?

I don't get upset until after 30 posts, I realize the problem is a simulation. Now that's a turd ball.
