Can someone suggest what is the cheapest and most durable solution to manually alter the volume of a speaker driven by a power amp? One speaker is way too loud as it is in a smaller area. I cant use stereo levelling unfortunately as the power amp drives both speakers in mono. Hopefully some sort of passive, jack in , jack out potentiometer type device. I'm clueless.

A single power resistor in series with the offending speaker may be all you need and would be by far the cheapest option.

Or power "L Pad" can be used for continuously variable levels.

Years ago, a tapped transformer was used.
A resistor in series with a speaker causes boomy Bongo Drum resonance.
