Voltage booster running too hot

Hi, I am using a micro USB to charge a 2 cell lipo in a Bluetooth speaker project. I am using a voltage booster to convert the 5V input from the micro USB to 8.5V for the balance charging module. It is pulling 2.4 to 2.5 A, which is making the booster very hot. I am concerned that when I put it in the enclosure it will get even hotter, being in an enclosed space and will burn out. The booster is one of these: booster

I am looking for an easy way to reduce the charging current. Any ideas?

Welcome to AAC.
The Booster spec does state 2A max.
You could use a series power resistor or power diode/s to reduce the current.
This will of course increase the recharge time.

I only know a little bit about circuits, but is seems to me that a series resistor would be simple, effective although an unrefined solution. I will give it a go. V = 5v, I = 2.5A, => R=2 ohm. So I will try adding in a 2 ohm resistor to drop current to 1.2A
