The pictures are very good in detail, you don't realize how
special you are becoming. You are building an amazing
career for your self, you are going into production of
video and film. The broken T.V. has elevataed the two of you
into super people.Keep up the good work and good things
will start to happen for you.I may not be able to do it,but I know
something great when I see It.Go,Go,Go,

let me check,
be careful with that joseph, those flex cable really fragile.
Tear just one a mm and you can kiss the panel bye bye.

If the components are on the underside of the PCB, then this test is really hard.
You have to decide how to place the TV to take the voltage measurements.
Be careful not to tear the flex cables. I suggest that you connect the LVDS cable last.
You can leave that row driver connector in the second pic disconnected. for the time being.
The way I see it if you connect it then you cannot flip the board.
Nothing will happen leaving it out now

Keep everything steady after the connection, lay them out so they don't move.

Do not leave the CCFL connectors disconnected, as the TV will shutdown and you may damage the HV driver circuitr
y

Give power and measure the voltage at the points shown in pic 1

First measure at point 2, here you should get 5V as from the connector measurements you have a 5V. This is the same connection.

If you don't get 5V here than something is wrong with the connecting cable.

Only go on if you have 5V at point 2

If not post back or check the connector properly or check the LCD has power or check the LVDS connector as in the post 296 to see the pins 1,2 & 16 has 5V. if they have 5V then point 2 shud get 5V. If not you have faulty cable or termination.

Post the details

the one connecting the driver board to the panel.
U don't see it.
On top of that driver board, green flexible cables.

Thanks for the encouragement.

Fixing these kinda stuffs is child's play to me.
I really donno how or why I am able to do what I do, in fixing things but I do have a hard time designing circuits, well sometimes.
I can very easily learn a circuit layout or a VCR mechanism gear timings ( which are now obsolete by the way, due to optical discs). I can totally take out all the gears out and study them and will be able to align them.

I guess there are a lot of people out there who can do what I do, I mean helping to repair these kind of devices.

The only problem here is that, most of the techs here are not educated.
I mean they actually donno what a typical component does even if they know that, that component is faulty. Most of them can fix stuff.
Like you say, self taught. But here they are not self taught, it's more like, fiddle taught, if you keep on fiddling and if you can understand the basics then you will eventually fix it.

This is how it is done here. And that is why I am the last resort.
If no one can fix it, I can, cause I know the theory and I am able to study the circuit, to see what was the root of a typical fault.

There are lot of repair shops here, even last night I saw 2 new electronic repair shops, I mean, how the heck are they doing it, where are they coming from.
Best part is, if you open a shop then that placed will eventually be filled with TV's with in months and you can see TV's being thrown to the dump.

If they are providing a service then why does the place fills up with broken TV's and stuff, and after 6 months, they will put out a notice and throw away everything.

When I used to work I do not have TV's stashed in the workshop. ( 1990's)
Infact the place will be half empty always. Those days it was really hard to get spare for the TV's.
That is why the company which I worked become so famous in Maldives ( even now) for the reliable and fast work provided by me and another Indian guy whom I trained to the best of my knowledge. He is good, cause I taught him my ways of fixing stuff. To this day he is still working there.
Why him and not me? cause, company has to pay 350 USD for his salary which by the way is really a lot to Indians who work here. And I was a share holder...........at the time and was making too much and due to the fact that there was no written agreement and all.....well ....u can picture the rest., There is a lot to it actually
Go here to see what actually was my flesh and blood....and guess who is enjoying everything

Actually I thank god for what happened.

If this would have not happened, I wouldn't have found AAC.
I would be too bzy at a desk job.....so F^&$ 'em

{ed}
Since I am not working there, I get plenty of dell PC's to fix.
It was my work that got them started and now they in politics.

The second link shows what is happening now. here is a quote from that page from a Maldivian

so Mr.Ilyas Labeeb parliament member, is lie to all the people in Maldives saying the they are Dell Authorized Service Provider! shame on him.
Ilyas is a parliament member now.

Do you really want to know who he is and how close we were during those days?

Interesting isn't it? :D

Would you believe that it was in last month that I fixed 7 dell Mobo's.
From which the service center said they will need to be replaced.
Better to buy a new one.

I fixed all of them and I got one hell of pay check :D.

So who is the winner here?

Are u sure at point 2 u are getting 2.5V

According to ur measurements, it shud be 5V

Which ground are you using as the meter negative, it should be GND of the main board.

And TV should be turned on to take measurement

See the Pic.
The LVDS voltage measurement u gave shows a 5V supply.
According to the cable point 2 is that connection, problem is why are you not getting 5V at point 2 .
Use the main board ground for all voltage measurements.

Ur LVDS cable might be loose

Other thing I do not understand is that you are getting a 3.3V out with a 2.5V input.

Now I know that is not a boost converter.
It should be a 5V to 3.3V converter.
LVDS cable is getting a 5V from the main board but at the other end it is 2.5V.
Either the cable is faulty or ur measurement is going haywire due to wrong ground.

Probably that ground is not common.
Check the cables, It is typical that due to mishandling or you being new to this area, some connecting wires will be broken or loose.
I have never seen a TV with so many faults to begin with.

Check the cables , the grounds and interconnects.
I am sure what u are now experiencing are connection problems being a n00b at this.
These things I have seen in beginners. You don't have any idea on how careful you should be when handling flexible wires and due to plugging and unplugging so many times, these things tend to wear out pretty soon.

This is bad....the regulator is working and according to ur LVDS voltages, I can see that they are being produced some how.
Since from the beginning I haven't been able to see a clear video or picture of that TV when powered on, I cannot tell you that the LVDS signal is missing even though the differential voltage is there.

The Pictures of the driver board that you showed, is it complete?

It seems ur LCD Panel is working.
I can finalize the fault only if I see a lit TV picture.

My conclusion now is that heat sink mounted chip is the culprit as it was getting too hot to touch before. I had doubts on that before but I wanted to make sure that the drivers does not have an issue, since I have seen driver regulators gone bad.

Show a picture of the TV when on.

how do i get the tv on? it hasn't came on since like weeks ago.

tried bending at the connectors of the LVDS connector. worked one time but was white screen. but i wanted the snow picture so tried some more bending and nothing anymore. can try bending more if that is the problem. just have to try and make them straighter i guess?

heat sink mounted chip. is that expensive and hard to desolder and solder. or hot gun.

no need to bend those straight pins.

Not turning on..then there must be some place I must have over looked at the main board...
I'll check the pictures.
