Hello, I have the following Power supply, the power supply doesn't provide any power, I have opened it up and based on my visual inspection and datasheet reading, I have summarized the following stages:
Control and Auxiliary Power:

  • Voltage Level: 15V regulated output, which can be used for user programming applications.
  • Pin Numbers:
    • Pin 9, 11: +15V OUTPUT (15V regulated output)
    • Pin 14: GND (Control circuit return, also chassis/earth ground)(ale_manual_e)(ale_manual_e).
Input/Power PFC / Fuses / Inrush Limit:

  • Voltage Level: Matches the input AC voltage, which can be 115V AC or 230V AC depending on the configuration.
  • Pin Numbers:
    • Figure 3-1: Input AC Power Connection NON-PFC Version
    • Figure 3-2: Input AC Power Connection, PFC Version(ale_manual_e)(ale_manual_e).
High-Frequency Resonant Inverter:

  • Voltage Level: Converts the rectified DC voltage from the input stage to high-frequency AC voltage (around 325V DC for 230V AC input or 160V DC for 115V AC input).
  • No specific pins are mentioned for this stage.
Step-up Transformer:

  • Voltage Level: Steps up the AC voltage from the inverter to the required high voltage (e.g., 10kV AC from 325V AC).
  • No specific pins are mentioned for this stage.
HV Rectifier:

  • Voltage Level: Converts the high-frequency AC voltage from the transformer back into DC voltage (e.g., 10kV DC).
  • No specific pins are mentioned for this stage.
HV Filter:

  • Voltage Level: Smooths the rectified high-voltage DC to reduce ripple (remains the same as the rectified voltage, e.g., 10kV DC).
  • No specific pins are mentioned for this stage.
HV Output:

  • Voltage Level: Final adjustable high-voltage output, which can be within the range of the power supply's specifications (e.g., 0 to 10kV DC).
  • No specific pins are mentioned for this stage.

Note: I do not have the schematic.

I am planning to go stage by stage and just measure the current and voltage of each stage, does anyone have any other troubleshooting practicalo suggestions? I want to use this power supply to do charging of my Capacitor bank, this is a hobby project.

Consider that the voltages in that supply demand caution and are easily lethal. So before getting into anything while it is energized you certainly need to be familiar with how to work safely around that kind of power.
