Unbelievable, how a scientific scam originating from a fraudulent quack can have repercussions of this scale after so long ... it's sad seeing how some people's willful ignorance can affect us all:

Authorities in the eastern Caribbean island of St. Lucia have quarantined a cruise ship after discovering a confirmed case of measles aboard. Dr. Merlene Fredericks-James, the island's chief medical officer, told The Associated Press on Thursday that the ship is still in port and that no one has been allowed to leave it.

What does their belief in Scientology have to do with anything? This could have happened on any cruise ship. Way to many anit vax idiots out there. From my reading the church has no official stance against conventional modern medicine.

Maybe I misread it but I don't think his comment was about Scientology, it was directed at the anti-vaxx scam pulled by a doctor years ago to make money in a legal case.

My comment, as Wayneh just mentioned, had nothing to do with Scientology. It was rather directed against the anti-vaxxers.

But since you've brought it up, scientologists indeed have some strange beliefs regarding medical treatments. Especially those referring to mental illnesses.

I was referring to the article. Like it is a big deal the ship is owned by the Church of Scientology. That part of the story is completely irrelevant.

How do you know there isn't a connection of some kind? I'm not claiming there is or should be a connection, only wondering if there could be. I mean, if it had been the Christian Scientist's boat, one would naturally wonder.

It could be that space aliens infected the ship too. I'm not claiming there is or should be a connection only wonder if there could be a connection to aliens.

If there was a connection then it should have been mentioned in the article. Otherwise who owns the ship is absolutely irrelevant and the article serves more of a hit piece than anything else. Leave people to believe in the religion of their choice (or no choice for that matter). As long as they are not harming other people, their beliefs are no ones business but their own.

A religion owning a cruise ship is newsworthy all on its own. Man bites dog.
