Grand Canyon for sure as most of Chicago murders where gang on gang crime related and saved the tax payers money in the long run.
You beat me to it. One thing that is certain is that the deaths in Chicago are the intended result of policy. The people get what they want, and Chicagoans want murder. The voters just don't want it to stop badly enough to actually support any plan to make it happen. As long as it's "contained", voters and taxpayers aren't willing to make any changes needed to stop it. Talking and lamenting isn't enough!

I'm not worried about their children. Biology was its way with most of us when the hormones kick-in.
I really dont understand the big deal. I played with my fathers toy boats when I was geowing up and had a doll I made clothes for... I actually do not remember any of this attention to gender at all while growing up. I feel sad for the world today. I also wonder if someone like me today would have been labled autistic or some other thing and put on meds. I was an extremely introverted child. That is a scary thought.

I think it is a bit different when girls play with boy's toys. (well as long as they are not attached to the boy at the time ;) ). Taht has been happening for eons. The problem is that parents are trying to shape their kids into something the kids are not. Of course some will argue that is what people have been doing for years but I am not buying it.

And yes, I think autism, ADD and most any physiological maladies today are overly diagnosed. It is a lot easier just to through drugs at the "problem " rather than do the real work of investigation.

I still argue that if you have an empty vessel you can shape someone's mind however you please.
Assuming an empty vessel attributes more to nurture than to nature. That's hubris. We are largely the product of the genes inside us.

Nurture matters, but it's not the roadmap. Parents agonize over raising their children, unless they've had more than one and realize how little control they actually have. Is there anything you could have done to make your second child act more like your first? Good luck with that! A guiding hand to help them to reach maturity, yes, but we have almost no control over who they are.

I completely disagree. My parents were an enormous part of who I am and why other children grow up to be a problem well into being adults.

The blank slate model was popular in the early 1700s. The world moved on.

No one argues that nurture doesn't matter. Many baby animals need their parents to teach them and humans are no different. The modern view is that both nature and nurture are inextricably linked. Some traits are more heritable, such as hair and eye color, while some traits such as "aggressiveness" may or may not be expressed depending on the environment.
