I have already said I am an atheist. Now ..I guess this will help in understanding for those who might be wondering why I congratulated tom for saying there is no God.
I did not see this but I somehow felt it. See why I believe![]()

Take all the time you need Rifaa.Bill
About that email....I have to take some time off on that....that note contradicts to my beliefs somewhat....
What you have is probably an altered one.
The Mayans were great astronomers. Without telescopes they predicted eclipses of the sun and moon for centuries ahead of their time. The eclipse predictions are still on par with what we know today.Tell me...where can one find the true source for Mayan's history...
What is so great about them that makes their calender important..
Those guys are history for god's sake...so forget em.
Just talk about how we all are going to die in this miserable world of a planet
Ok Time out..tell meThe Mayans were great astronomers. Without telescopes they predicted eclipses of the sun and moon for centuries ahead of their time. The eclipse predictions are still on par with what we know today.
Yes, and has anyone heard of those missing 11 days in the UK? When we switched calendars - Julian to Gregorian - about 250 years ago. So don't forget to account for those. I think it applies to other countries also. Also, I'm not sure the Mayans had a concept of leap years, so don't forget to include those... All in all, it means the doomsday could be plus or minus maybe a month, if it was actually going to happen.Back to the orignal topic.
The Mayans do not predict the end of the world on December 21st, 2012. This is from folks reading to much into one particular calendar of theirs we call the Long Count calendar. It just ends there as a matter of convenience. It is the end of a cycle and another cycle, or 14 cycles, can be tacked on to it.
20 days =1 uinal (like a month, probably based on agricultural cycles)
18 uinal = 1 tun (5 days short of a year. One of their calendars, the Haab, made up for this with 5 nameless days at the end. That was a scary time for the Mayan)
20 tun = 1 k’atun (About a generation)
20 k’atun = 1 b’ak’tun (about 394 years)
Dec 21, 2012 marks the end of the 14th b’ak’tun since the beginning of their long count calendar. We have calculated the beginning of their calendar as August 11, 3114 BC. So if we tack on 14 b’ak’tun to that date, we get Dec 21, 2012 (Gregorian). There is nothing more to it than that. There is no special significance to this end of cycle more than any other in their writings.
There were many Mayan calendars. Some counted time in cycles of days, others in cycles of 20 day months. They even combined them for simplicity sake. One such combination resets every 52 years (once in a life-time, for them).
Others cycled every 260 days and still others every 365 days (the Haab). The all had 20 day months (uinal) though.
The Mayans had too darn many calendars…
That's what it always cracks up to be.....Mayans had too many calenders....
Each of their calenders worked together. one was like our months and days. Another was religious days, to tell when they would be, kind of like how Easter is decided. The other is like our centuries.
Mesoamerica.Ok Time out..tell me
When did Mayans ruled and where....I need to know
Wikipedia said:Mesoamerica or Meso-America (Spanish: Mesoamérica) is a region and culture area in the Americas, extending approximately from central Mexico to Belize, Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras and Nicaragua
They were from around right before the BC/AD time split to around 1500AD' but still around today, just not powerful.Ok Time out..tell me
When did Mayans ruled and where....I need to know
No, that hasn't been posted. Most of the thread seemed to be a couple of people comparing the merits/truth of different religions.Heck, this guy says the world will end on May 21st of next year (Judgement Day) and says he can prove it, too.

I didn't read through this long thread, so this doomsday prediction may have been already posted.
This has to be close to the longest, if not the longest thread ever on the siteI didn't read through this long thread, so this doomsday prediction may have been already posted.
