I am trying to replace the rechargeable Sanyo ML2430-HZ1 batteries (x4) in a sailing computer, as per this tutorial - https://www.instructables.com/Tack-Tick-RaceMaster-Battery-Replacement-33/

As I understand it, the ML2430 (at least the Sanyo one) stopped being produced in 2020, so I need an alternative. While there are some stockists in the USA, I live in New Zealand and shipping lithium batteries here is almost impossible from these stockists, it seems.

There are some ML2430 format batteries available on AliExpress, though none have the ‘HZ1’ connection type.

My current best options, as far as I can tell, are to use a version with the HJ1 connection (looks very similar… though a narrow connection rather than wide) eg - https://a.aliexpress.com/_mPsph3V

…or use an Cda generic ‘H type’ connector (also very similar, but again narrow) -https://a.aliexpress.com/_mOYSWIP

Does anyone know if these would work? Specs all the same but mount type different, I think.

Original Sanyo specs here:https://www.batterybob.com/Battery-Reference/Sanyo-Specs.pdf

And Cda specs here: https://en.cda-cap.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/Bus_Elx_DS_4099_ML_Series_Button-Cell.pdf

Unfortunately neither as cheap as the apparently circa $5 replacements when they were actually being made by Sanyo still!

I am in the same boat (pardon the pun). Have an older TackTick Race Master and it doesn't charge any more. Did you solve your issue? Maybe we order and split 100 units and put them up on Sailing Anarchy for sale to others.

Yes - I did solve this. I bought these batteries:
AliExpress: NZ$20.60 | 1PCS ML2430 CDA ML2430 button battery with solder pins 3V CR2430 H-type rechargeable
https://a.aliexpress.com/_mM2tRMj

Then I followed the tutorial online to pull it apart, take out the old batteries, and solder these ones in. I also had to clean some of my board with rubbing alcohol before I managed to get the Sailmaster to start up again, but it works now. Very happy!

I should also note that I tried to set the batteries down as low as possible so as to use the widest part of the connector. This meant I had to snip the connectors a little shorter so they wouldn’t stick too far out the bottom of the board. It worked - just be careful not to snip too much off!

Lots of patience required for this job.

Thanks.

interestingly. Once I took apart my Race Master, cleaned up a few things, and put back the battery pack, it worked again! Now the test will be recharging.
Yes after doing this I also wondered if just a clean would have solved my issues! But at least I have confidence in the batteries now I guess!
