If you don't have enough gate drive (peak current), or its too slow in transition, then MOSFET will potentially overheat. A lower gate charge and/or lower Vgs(th) (gate-source threshold voltage) will help mitigate that, but changes to gate drive might also be needed. Channel resistance Rds(on) is less of an issue at higher speeds as the switching losses tend to dominate.
