Quirky Features on new cars

Just bought a new GM auto for SWMBO, I drove it home and ran very nice as expected, but it was so quiet, especially when starting (keyless Ign. just put your foot on the brake).
I did not get that usually cranking sound like the old car.
But driving it the other day, I noticed the annoying auto stop feature, every time you brake to a stop at light or stop sign, the engine turns off and indicates auto stop, as soon as the brake is released, it re-starts, because it is so quiet, I did not notice it before.
Just GM's method of saving gas feature.
Fortunately I found a work around on Utube!

I guess you will have to stop revving the engine and popping the clutch to burn rubber. Ah, the good old days.

I would not like the auto-stop at all. There must be a delay. How many people have you seen who momentarily stop when partly through a left turn from a side street to a busier highway?

There has to be a way to disable it. Here's one: .
Thanks, For this car it may be just as easy to use the Manual shift option as shown in the Utube video.
Shift to L is really manual option, which you can set for the highest gear, in my case it is 6 speed, and it operates as a normal automatic does, and turns off the auto-stop.

Not my cup of tea.
Boy is that guy annoying! He is right about autostop being appropriate in hybrids. My 2001 Honda Insight had the electric motor right on the crankshaft. There were three gas powered cylinders and where the fourth might have been was where the electric was. It even pulsed slightly to smooth the whole drivetrain out, like a four cylinder engine. Using a traditional solenoid and starter motor to start does seem pretty silly. Another thing about the Honda set up is it had a manual transmission that was very hard to stall since the electric motor supplied tons of torque even at very low revs. Taught two kids how to drive a stick on that car, mostly pain free. Miss that car.

Ah, yes. One used to use shift to low to"lock" the auto-trans, then quick up and back to simulate a standard transmission. Didn't know whether that still worked. It's been awhile.

No, I want to waste gas and increase pollution to leave the stop light in a timely matter when it is -40F... I'm bad like that.

EDIT: Looking more at this topic, I think I'll ride my brakes home. I want to waste brake pads and rotor material in order to offset those that are saving gas and reducing pollution.

didn't read all of the links. But on my 2018 Equinox, you just have to set the interior temp to a setting not high or low but a real temp and turn on the AC. If the temp set is higher than the outside and the AC is turned on the start stop doesn't work. And since AC is selected it doesn't heat.

Max, wait to you start getting the warnings, "not to take your eyes off the road while driving", that only come up when your driving, never so far when sitting still.

Per post #11 on fooling the hood switch, I see by a GM forum there is a unit sold for $140.00, it appears easy enough to make one a lot cheaper!

Pretty sure the hood switch is only part of that. Try leaving the hood partially up and driving. Not sure but think doing that will shut down a few other things like transmission shifting and engine power.

What I said earlier about keeping the AC on but not running is what the repair tech told me at the dealership when I leased the car.

Apparently the unit simulates an open hood at start, initially the hood is actually physically closed, after this the hood shows open at start up until motor runs, then reverts back to the actual condition of closed hood.
Without the add-on unit, you unlatch the hood, start the car and then latch the hood closed, this defeats the auto-stop.

Proof that 'freedom' is the motivation for great innovation. :D
