Hello, can anyone recommend a tutorial on how to make a printed circuit board and is there any software out there to help design the board?

Thanks,

Jacques

Robin, thank you for the links. I know google, and I have used it for this search. What I use this forum for is to get expert opinion on subjects that I know little about. A recommendation by an experienced member is worth much more than any number of google searches.

Making good PCBs is not that easy until, after lots of practice and plenty of unusable boards, you develop the skill.
I have just had a board made by this guy and I am very pleased with it and pleased with the price.

Thanks, I'm not sure if I want to invest all the time required to make my first PCB. I'm working through this link, is this a guy called maticvodicar from Slovenia?

That is the name he uses. I don't know if it is his actual name. I ordered the board on 20 Feb and received it 27 Feb and there was a bit of to-and-fro about exactly what I wanted included in that time.

I've just tried Designspark PCB, it seems at first quite complete with a large library. Unfortunately it does not have a voltage regulator LM317 of the style that I am using. So I have to create a part through the wizard. There are many youtube tutorials that explain the process, unfortunately they seem to be using previous versions of the software that do not match at all what I am seeing on my screen.

So! Steep learning curve, maybe even off the cliff. No tutorials with the current version. I'm going to try PCB123 and see what happens.

You will find you will need to create parts in most of these software applications. I wish there was a standard for these files so they can be shared across applications.

Give Diptrace a try. In my opinion a very small learning curve.

You may want to decide where you will have the boards made and see what software they like.
