Hi

I have an Eltek Valere Multicharger 900, it’s a 12V automotive battery charger. And basically it wont charge anything, it just resets and says no clamp contact. I would like to repair it.
I’ve taken it apart and everything looks ok apart from what I believe to be a capacitor has melted. I’d like some help to identity the component so I can replace it and test.

It has 09 printed on top. From what I can make out, it says C291 or C2911 on the side with 58V and some text like ‘TOE’ but it’s melted.

That blue box originally had a clear plastic lid so I don't think it is (was) a capacitor.
I think it was either a relay or, more likely, a thermal trip of some sort.

 

Looks like it could have been a fuse holder, maybe.

From underneath it’s a 2 pin component with each pin around 7-8mm long so a thermal trip or fuse would make some sense.
Any ideas of the name or manufacturer of it?

I think the fuse is soldered into the board. The scale of the photo is confusing, that melted thing is the fuse.

I am thinking it drew an arc. That “09” is probably actually 60. If >60A was through there at a decent voltage...

It looks like the fuse is soldered onto the PCB from underneath.
We can charge batteries with over 100A, I can only assume there was an issue and it’s blew the fuse.
I hope the issue was with the battery that blew it and not an issue internally with the charger.
