Only tried at the Fraser River. At best a flake here and there. It's mostly fine gold which appears in almost every pan. Have you tried it? It's quite peaceful other than almost getting eaten that one time.
Never tried it... but it sounds interesting, but also back-breaking ...

Only pan and shovel are legal on public reserves here. I've given some serious thought to buying a claim for a sort of yearly adventure. Check out Dan Hurd on YouTube, I've been all though that area in BC. Lots of other minerals like "Ocean picture stone" that sell for big bucks.

was traveling up north couple of days ago. stopped for coffee at our regular place and noticed that swallows have build the nests around the lamp. they covered sensor so light is now always on even in broad daylight. don't think they planned to do that as they are migratory birds. only ravens and crows seem to learn to cover the sensor to get warmed up in the cold winter days.

the best part was panicked reaction of my wife when i whispered to her to not move or make loud sound. she is afraid of nature and was recently reading about Japanese hornets. so i told her i just saw two of them entering the nests and pointed above our heads. oh well, at least that was before she had coffee in hand ;-)

From yesterday, a great blue heron and a daytime moon.

When I was out looking for birds I couldn’t resisting pointing the camera up at the moon in the morning sky. But the moon is an overdone subject so I wanted to try to give it something new. I worked out the exposure using luminance masks so I could keep color in the sky while exposing the moon properly.

The saturation of the sky is artistic license, though it is not a replacement color, just somwhat deeper than it appeared. The 1:1 crop here is to show detail, though the original edit was a 16:9 crop for composition.
