We call them cougars here. I thought the other details of my story painted the setting pretty good.Using snother definition would have really changed your story.
Never tried it... but it sounds interesting, but also back-breaking ...Only tried at the Fraser River. At best a flake here and there. It's mostly fine gold which appears in almost every pan. Have you tried it? It's quite peaceful other than almost getting eaten that one time.
Only pan and shovel are legal on public reserves here. I've given some serious thought to buying a claim for a sort of yearly adventure. Check out Dan Hurd on YouTube, I've been all though that area in BC.
