This tech was long overdue:

Researchers at ETH Zurich have developed a new sensor technology that directly addresses this issue. The concept involves cryptographically signing images, videos or audio signals within a sensor chip at the exact moment they are captured. This signature allows for verification that the data genuinely originates from a camera or recording device, indicates when it was captured, and ensures that it has not been tampered with.

And is completely useless as long as any legitimate technology that doesn't use it continues to be used, or as long as any file format that does not support the additional metadata can still be used.
Perhaps if journalists were forced to use this tech things would begin to change a little for the better.

Why? How? What's a "journalist"? What would the penalty be for not using it? Is a YouTube blogger a journalist? Would this mean that the news couldn't use images taken by victims of crimes or people in conflict zones unless they happen to be taken with a camera having this tech?
