Optical link from TV to hifi not very loud

Hello.
I was wondering if anyone knows about optical toslinks from a TV to a hifi.
I have one of these things to get sound from my TV to my hifi.
My hifi will go twice as loud from any other source. But when connected to the TV I can have the hifi volume dial on maximum and it's just not coming through as it should. I don't see anyway to up the output from the TV. Perhaps the toslink is rubbish ?
Any thoughts ?
TV is Samsung UE65TU7000 hifi is a rega Mira

The output level from the TV is not high enough and/or the input sensitivity of the hifi is not enough for them to provide enough volume level. Since there is a volume control available then the TV should have a higher output level and the hifi should have a higher sensitivity. They are designed and made in different parts of the world so maybe the designers never talked together about levels. Also maybe the TV and/or hifi have a wrong volume control part.

Perhaps the level of the optical link is controlled by the TV volume. Try turning it up.
No way! Digital audio outputs, optical or copper, are direct dumps of the digital audio stream from the source.

What OP is describing is perfectly normal. At least that has been my experience with these outputs for 25+ years.

Well, I have looked everywhere to increase output on TV. I just select optical output on TV and then it goes to my amplifier to control volume. There is no other setting available on the TV. Yet the amplifier can output much more. Strange . TV volume can't be used after selecting optical

Then my added amplifier suggestion in Post #3 may be your best solution.
They also make preamplifier PCB kits if you want to roll your own and perhaps save a few bucks.

So you have tried every TV made, right? Sorry, but you missed at least one. I had a TV that worked that way. And it makes sense, you can then adjust your volume with your TV remote.

My current system:

TV (Sony)
PC (DELL with high end Sound Blaster sound card)
Receiver (DENON)
DVR (FiOS)

All have optical outputs but only the PC has a variable optical output.

Another option I use is the headphone jack on the TV. Allows full control of the audio with the remote.
Good idea, but the info on his Samsung TV says it doesn't have a headphone jack, but it does have Bluetooth.
Perhaps a Bluetooth adapter with audio out would be an option that would give more volume (example).

I have a similar converter and the first thing I see is that powering it via a USB connection is a poor choice because the current required is more than what the average cheap USB cable or port will provide, and thus the voltage will be lower.
Next, in the specifications segment of the data sheet, no output voltage is specified. THAT alone tells me that it is not a standard level. AND, because a common consumer-grade stereo amplifier does not have adjustments for the line-level inputs, the result is inadequate gain. So power it from a suitable well filtered five or six volt wall wart and see if that helps.
