But I must say, that Disney is not like other places. This is way better than I had anticipated. I'm happy with everything except the amount of money I'm spending (especially given I just lost my job Friday LOL).
Well that sucks about the job. I am about the same as to tourist things but did like Disney. My wife set everything up when we took the kids which are actually my kids from a former marriage. I also drove down from Cleveland hitting Florida a few days ahead of schedule. Went to Daytona and hit the beach. I developed an ear infection by the time we hit Disney. We stayed at one of the park resorts and they sent a golf cart for me and took me to an emergency care center. Then back to our hotel. Disney had a deal with AMEX so everything went on American Express. A week after the entire trip the bill rolled in. Everything was on it, the motels down and back and the week in the parks with everything. When all was said and done 25 years ago we dropped about $3,500 and I remember telling Kathy it was the best $3,500 we ever spent. I would do it again and thinking about taking the grandchildren down. :)

Just enjoy and try not to think about the job, there will be another job but make the most of family time. This is not something you do everyday.

The Disney attention to detail is truly astounding. It makes for an engineer's delight just trying to see all the neat stuff. Everything from the "line folders" that keep the lines compact for the amusements to the trash collection system (it's underground) to the fact that they do not sell chewing gum.

A must see is the Haunted House. The optical illusions are incredible. Worth seeing twice. Hopefully the lines are not too long at this time of year.

Sorry to hear about the job. Truly bad timing. :(:(

Yes it was pretty amazing. The 3D holograms in haunted house were just like in the movies. I still haven't figured out how they did it. Maybe they were projecting onto a transparent film that I couldn't see? There were all these neat details in everything, that nobody seemed to care about but me. And why would they, With storm troopers marching through the streets and all.

Well it beats getting let go upon return. I took my vacation and still getting paid for my unused vacation. (Don't think to hard about that statement , I'm not)

I have to admit that I still don't know how they did all of the effects. I _do_ know that one trick was to do otherwise mundane optical illusions on large scales. For example, the ghost riding in the car with you. I think they may have used a huge concave mirror to make things float in space.

p.s. How did you like the "elevator"?

The elevator was cool but I was expecting more. I guess that's the fault of the tram guide who talked it up, not the ride itself.

I did some reading and had chosen Clearwater beach. Then decided it was still too cold to play in the water,
On Saturday, the heat index will be 79F and Sunday will be a heat index of 83F.
The water temperature is still, "winter cold" in my opinion. 69F on the average. That's 10 degrees warmer than the 59 degree water temperature I swam in, in Indianapolis, but I was a child then and didn't know any better. Now I prefer August Gulf temperatures...89F. Not quite a warm bath, but way more survivable than 69F.

Just got back from the beach @joeyd999 . There were a lot of college-aged kids there but they were not engaging in any debauchery that I saw. Just playing wholesome beach games and behaving themselves. The beach was relatively "empty," as in, we did not have to be near enough any other party to smell their sunscreen. Probably because it was too cold for a good "beach day." Only a handful of people got in the water. It was about 65f and windy.

Ok, a brief return to the original topic...

Is this something that makes sense in Florida? A sticker that says "BEARD life" with a picture of a BIRD?
I have seen Beard Life T-Shirts with assorted beard related phrases. I have seen Beard Life posters also with phrases. I wear a beard but I'll be darned if I can figure what or how the bird figures into things? Then too, Florida is pretty big on birds on signs, I noticed a fondness for pelicans.

Wild turkeys have beards and the guys who hunt them collect the beards.Alas, then there is this from Florida Department of Natural Resources:
"Proud of that Turkey? Then get the recognition you and that gobbler deserve. Apply for an Outstanding Gobbler Certificate from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission's Wild Turkey Registry. The Wild Turkey Registry recognizes gobblers that meet certain minimum beard and spur length requirements."

Wow, she was a lieutenant with the department and had 19 years of service. I wonder if this was a first for her or if in the past she just never got caught? Guessing she just blew a good thing well beyond what she blew on the breathalyzer. While I know she should be held to a higher standard I can't help but feel for her. Then too, if while driving drunk she had injured or killed a close friend or family I would be screaming for her head.
