We use them around the farm on all of dads automatic stock waterers.
If they don't turn off completely, they cattle simply enjoy a trough full of alfalfa tea! Uff-da! How disgusting. The fermenting alfalfa that gets stuck under the self-filling waterers in the barn stink a special stink!

I don't doubt that they meet the applicable safety standards used as labeled! -- My point is that off label application (of anything) is often met with unexpected conditions/consequences .:)
I like to find off-label uses for lots of things. Particularly entertaining are things from the pharmacy or the motorcycle store. Occasionally, both at the same time... which is a lesson on how to enjoy a weekend!

Telling tales out of school, HP?:p
Only because I told her exactly the same thing you told to her.:)

Except I'm a man, so my version isn't as delicate. More like, "If you're going to deliver a (verbal) cow pie, do not decorate it with flowers."

The only horizontal output regulation was a dirty great 25kV shunt triode across the EHT output.
So like 6bk4 and 6en4 and like that? Very nice for flea pwr cc xray tube too! Only cc cuz all or nothing thermionic with coated cathode and best to run hv backwards polarity! Thx for saying EHT cus ppl act like HP and I coined abbreviation for ourselveso_O!

I say HP should heed _loose lips_ idiom cuz she needs all the help she can get if she goes through with bobbing for tubes in the spring:D! Now I'm sying your version is more direct but more earthy too:cool:! So hard to say which reaches HP best cuz she likes to adorn speech but is also fond of directness:D!

Although I've not attempted it, forward, hot cathode, operation may be possible via 'throttling' of the plate current though application of appropriate grid bias -- Proper 'EHT technique' should permit operation to anode EMFs of at least 70kV -- at which potential the anode structure and 'integral shielding' should be 'lucent' to a significant portion of the 'spectra of interest':D -- Note that the absolute maximum (continuous) plate dissipation = 25W (or ≈ 350uA @70kV)

Hey @Aleph(0) --- If you wish to discuss this further, please start a new thread or take it to your EHT thread -- Thanks!!!:):):)

All the best

Disclaimer to casual readers: --- Misapplication of the above described apparatus will likely result in exposure to hazardous levels of ionizing radiation with consequent acute injury and/or genetic damage with long term enhanced liability to neoplastic disorders! --- If you are less than conversant with radiologic theory and practice don't even think about it!

Hey! @ian field --- I've gotta ask - what's your avatar supposed to be? A 'zombified' coconut???:confused::)

With genuine curiosity and friendly intent
Best regards
HP:)

PS
Inasmuch as 'turnabout is fair play' I offer the fact that my avatar is an image of a character from an old Vincent Price film:cool:...

I doubt the "causal reader" would understand one thing you have written so I would not worry about a disclaimer. ;)
