What about this

Two trains running in opposite directions cross a man standing on the platform in 27 seconds and 17 seconds respectively and they cross each other in 23 seconds. The ratio of their speeds is:

how to solve this tricking question.
They are testing your alertness -- Notice in the last question they tried to 'trip you up' by 'bringing you to' 13.8889 twice (i.e. 13.8889+125=138.8889 then divided by 10 = 13.8889)

The present question masks the obvious with a lengthy, obfuscous description...

EDIT: (Dec-7-2015 --- 13:50 [UTC-6:00]) To correct serious typo (To wit: 13.8889 vs 3.8889:eek::oops::oops::oops:)

I apologize that I don't understand what you're asking...
Two trains running in opposite directions cross a man standing on the platform in 27 seconds and 17 seconds respectively and they cross each other in 23 seconds. The ratio of their speeds is:
the 27sec is longer train.
& 17 seconds is smaller
both cross in 23sec.
by this hint how to solve further?
there ratio of speed?

Hint: You're overthinking it -- just relax and frame the question in your own words -- then it will come to you!:)

If you find trick questions annoying - I tend to agree!:rolleyes:
