matching sine wave cycles

There are grid tie wind turbine systems these days that are tied
right into your house service box. I have heard that the sine wave that comes out of the inverters on these systems aligns itself automatically with the cycle on the incoming power line. In otherwords it does it without any circuitry.[ I mean only this part of the mating, there is plenty of circuitry for other things.]

That way there is no problem with harmonics,{hopefully} Why does this happen?
How does the grid force the inverter wave to be in identical form
to it ??

i guess it is similar to running a generator in parallel to a grid (i may be wrong).
when u synchronise a generator in parallel to a grid(phase ,frequency, phase sequence, voltage must be same) the grid opposes any change in generator o/p by sending a current thru it to balance any deviation. but then how can that work for inverter?

The inverter tracks the mains phase and voltage and adjust its output accordingly. Like beenthere said, it's a synchronous inverter. It does need circuits to do this.
