Hi:

I have downloaded an LTSpice model for the LM386. Can some explain to me how
I would get this model working. Note I only have a .sub file. I have attached the file.
Thanks very much.

You need to have a symbol, in an ".asy" files that points to the ".sub" file.
Which version of LTspice are you working with?
Have you seen the YouTube video on this subject?

One option is to copy the model text and paste it as a directive onto a blank LTS schematic. Then click 'Hierarchy/Open this sheet's symbol' and answer 'yes' to the pop-up request to generate a symbol automatically. Once you have that symbol you can edit it as you wish within the LTS editor.

It edits fine in my LTS (version XV11). In File Explorer, just double-click on the file name and LTS should pop up as the default app to open it.
Thanks Alec.

When I try to run a sim with the LM386, it says "Could not open library file LM386.sub". I see that the file extension is txt rather than sub. Now
the error msg makes sense. Not sure what to do.

My collection of models has this chip. The model (actually two models Lm386 and Lm386_) is in the Lm386.sub file in the SUB folder. In the folder ...Documents\LTspiceXVII\lib\sym\ZZZ\Sound_Amplifiers is the file of the symbol LM386.asy. With this symbol, any model from Lm386 and Lm386_ is called.

My suggestion: download the whole lot from his site. No toasters or TVs yet but probably most of what you will need in the next two years. Make sure you explore the full thing; it's a rich trove of models of all kinds.
