Could I have damaged it if I connected it straight to the green and or blue?

 

That doesn't make sense.
Disconnect all 3 RGB wires from negative.
Do all the LEDs come ON and if so what is the reading on the meter.

All leds light when reconnected to power, I wasn't sure if i connected the black wire straight to the blue and green when I was testing.

Connect the G and B RGB wires to negative, leave R not connected or what's also called "floating".
Only the RED LEDs should be ON, read meter.

Finally connect the R and G RGB wires to negative, leave B not connected.

Are you sure the G wire is not connected to anything and R and B are connected to negative?
