I have a broken contact type switch but don't know what it's called to replace it. A cam turns and contacts a copper strip that has two parallel strips that have wire connected to each and contact points at the end of each strip. When the cm hits it the contacts meet and complete the circuit

Your image looks to be a crude home brew type Micro-Switch. They come in a wide variety of levers and rollers for activation. Here is an example:



Most are available with Common, Normally Open and Normally Closed contacts. They also come in high current versions.

You choose for voltage and current you wish to handle.

What is the instrument and how old is it?
I cannot find a switch like that. Options I can offer is to replace the switch with a micro switch.

Hi Dip,
As a temporary fix you could reattach the broken lead to this point, Red Arrow.
Take care not to overheat the plastic moulding.
