One thing that humans seem to have done good, was calendar keeping.

It was VERY important for survival.. When to plant crops, and when to harvest.

Once it was "realized" that there was 4 seasons, the "year" was accepted pretty quickly..I would imagine.

Given time, and the will, lifespans will increase dramatically, at least for those with money.

I'm thinking science, if that's what you mean. It is an old theme in SciFi, with current advances in medicine (and assuming they continue) then replacement body parts that are 100% compatible are possible. Then there is the ideas of regenerating worn out organs within your own body.

Those who have the money will be able to afford these hypothetical treatments (if and when they become available), the rest of us die. Over time they will get cheaper, but another issue kicks in, the governments do not represent their people, and overcrowding could be a real concern. It is entirely possible the treatments will be restricted, for our own good of course. Look at the FDA and terminally ill patients if you don't think this is likely.

They are about money and how to live longer.

 

Taken to extremes as only Hollywood will do it. I'm thinking of something a bit subtler.

 

Of course Hollywood extremes it. Sometimes the more extreme, the more entertaining it is. Within reason.

I believe that real life and science fiction sometimes goes hand-in-hand. They learn from each other.

 

I want to slide sideways into the cemetary all used up, doors bashed in and crawl from the smoking wreckage while exclaiming WHEW WHAT A RIDE!!!!, rather than to go meekly into the night as a broken, and feeble old man who cant even take himself to the bathroom without help. Sums it up pretty good for me.
