What's Morphine....

I hear in movies...after they inject it, usually the patient is quite happy....

 

Medical opium derivative, a potent pain killer. Addictive. Further processing makes Heroin.

And far beyond. Check ut the movie Trainspotter. There you have heroine additction at its worst.

Been working with addicts for some years, and its not nice to see how good and nice people ruins themselves and destroy their family.

 

Heroin and Morphine are basically interchangeable, but Heroin is more potent and pure. Morphine is used by doctors the world over. Pain can kill, in the form of shock, and morphine treats pain.

I'm no expert, so this could be wrong, but I've heard if you actually need morphine, the pain is extremely intense, the odds of becoming addicted go way down. The brain "burns" up the morphine without exciting the pleasure centers. Maybe some of our more medical savvy members can straighten me out.

They are called endorphins (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Endorphins ). They are not chemically related to opiates like heroin and morphine.

A friend of mine had half his foot amputated (He sent me a pic on the phone as soon as he woke up. What a sick man.), due to some diabetic-smokers-leg-wound that wouldn't heal. He had a hard time when the doctors stoped the morphine treatment. The phantom pain is not so hard on him.

Another guy was in a bad car accident. Driving to work, he fronted with a bus. The bus threw my friends car far out in the field. I passed by while the paramedic and fire dep cut him out of the wreck. I saw the car and thought: "Don't I know that car?" So I called him and I was happy when he answered the phone.

- Hey, I thought I saw your car in an accident. Are you still alive? I asked
- Don't think I can come to work today, I'm beeing cut out of the wreck now.
- Say what...!
- This is the doctor, please don't call my patient now - CLICK.

He was hospitalized for 3 month, and was for treatmend for 3 or 4 years. He is not fully recovered, as his right leg was crushed from the knee down. This was 10 or so years ago.

He had no problems stoping the morphine treatment.


I think it depents on the pain your in...

 

I had a serious motorcycle accident back some 30 years go (might have mentioned it before). It resulted in, amongst other things, collarbone injuries that would not heal. I had to go in to get surgery for a few screws on one side and an implant on the other side that supplied a electrical pulse to the break line. I ended up with a shoulder width of about 1.5 inches less than I had before.... but, to make a long story short, they gave me morphine after the operation for 4 days. WOW! I can certainly see why people get addicted to it. Very nice stuff. IIRC, does not kill the pain, but you just do not care about it any more.

That pretty much sums it up.

It is weird.. When it comes to tooth pain, some opiates provide pain relief, and some provide "I dont care anymore"-relief.

Supposedly it is the same all around the body. Some opiates, especially if provided point-of-pain, effectively stop the pain, but if taken IV or orally, it just gives you a buzz, and an over all sense of "Meh!"

It will ruin the hell out of your life. I live in Baltimore. 90% of our homeless are so because of Opiate addiction.. It is almost split between prescription abuse and heroin abuse.

Point is, the body is an amazing thing. If you screw with it too much, it falls apart.

Doing drugs is effectively HRT (Hormone Replacement Therapy). So when using drugs, the chemicals your body naturally makes is now provided by the drug.

SO, your body STOPS PRODUCING what it needs. This is essentially what "physical" addiction is.

The withdraw period is the body "rebooting".

However, the longer you are on these drugs, the more the body "forgets" about the proper "dosage" to provide.. THUS the longer and more intense the withdraw.

Just like when jrap switches servers and we are all running around wondering what the crap to do!

Given enough time, we could find or build a replacement, but we would all rather "relapse" back to the "pure AAC"

In 59 years on this rock I have finally started to learn how the world really works and I have no where enough time to use that knowledge now. I think only 300 years is a gyp let alone less than 100.

Let me tell you something abt death to those who don't believe in after life.
But before that I like someone to tell me something I have heard about certain group of people who try to listen what goes in a coffin.

I will tell you what I know what happens inside the grave. Like I said I first want to know if anyone had heard about the above foretold story.

Correct me If I am wrong. I have heard that those guys were trying to listen thru microphones planted inside the coffin. They all died instantly.

When you have everything figured out, there is no reason to hang around this old planet any more.
It is good to attack new learnings to keep the mind from concentrating on the aging process.

 

Yep' just got back from going thru 150 pictures and making choices
of which to print and put on a disc.The toughest choice was
the pictures of me free swimming in the Atlantic ocean. So
I need to learn to up load pictures of a guy in Atlantic ocean.
I didn't feel old doing either,swimming or making choice. One
man against the currents and the ocean.
