i am a student of electrical engineer,,
i am working on a project ,,
i am making a power saver device..i just want to ask what will be the effect on the devices if i clipp the voltage cycle off a bit ..??
is there any loss occur?

 

what do you mean exactly by "clipp the voltage cycle off a bit"? Add a resistor, PWM current limiting?

 

Resistive loads (incandescent bulbs) will use less power at lower voltage. But this would be really bad for many other devices, and could even cause higher power consumption.
