Off Topic but...

I know I’m an animal but, geez these people are taking it a bit to far, somebody call an animal rights lawyer, they shouldn’t be allowed in the feed store By themselves.
We have a local Italian bakery and an Italian delicatessen. I always tell the girls working both "Shhh I am not allowed to come in here without adult supervision". This is apparent at checkout.

Closer to topic my grandfather was a doctor, an actual MD doctor. He graduated medical school in 1907. Something I recall about him was his dislike of people who would self medicate or those he would examine and try to tell him what the diagnosis should be.

Me? I place all my trust in my primary care provider and when he prescribes a specialist I see a specialist. While he was alive I had an agreement with my grandfather, I would not practice medicine and he would not do any electrical work. :)

In my youth, I had a wise colleague who said: "Every people get the government they deserve". He was from Italy and English was a secondary language. He was speaking about the prospect of the PCI (Partito Comunista Italiano) winning the national elections in 1976. I did not realize it at the time time but his words were both prescient and apocryphal.

It's easy to pile on but there are few easy choices in government during this pandemic.

As the Governor of a state what would you do? Push to reduce possible deaths to lowest level possible with strict restrictions or allow some level of increasing death to prevent a economic crash by letting people assume more risk?

With the state currently not pulling out the welcome mat for tourists, she believes this may be the nail in the coffin for the business.

"We probably are going to close doors. Us and a lot of other small businesses because we don't have the resources," said Chaminand, the manager at Coco Mango Hawaii. "We had days where we would not do a single sale and you still have to pay the rent, you still have to pay the light bill and you still have to feed yourself and your family."

Gov. David Ige has not ruled out a lockdown, but for now he's asking tourists not to visit at least through the end of October due to the COVID-19 surge.

Eggs 'n Things, a popular breakfast spot in Waikiki, just started bringing back all of its furloughed workers.

Regional manager Edwin Ohta said the restaurant was forced to furlough more than 40 people last year when the state went on lockdown. It also closed two restaurants.

"Any dip right now -- you know everyone is on a fine balance right now and any push in either direction could either make or break a company right now. So I feel that ... it's going to hurt us," he said. "I mean, it was rough the first time. I can only imagine what the second time might be like for us and even right now we're still rebuilding."

In other words, You're screwed no matter what you do.
No not at all. In spite of what our "leaders" do it is still possible act prudently and make choices that are better than "poor". My number one priority is to avoid dying of "stupid". So I will continue to do what I have been doing for the last 18 months and maybe I'll be one of the last ones standing. It feels a bit like surviving a nuclear holocaust in the sense that do I really want to be among the last ones standing?

That's much easier to do if you're responsible for only Numero Uno and retired. For most of us it's not about stupid, it's about acceptable risk in a world of competing vital requirements.

We must have had the 'same wise colleague '

I too had a wise colleague who said: "Every people get the government they deserve".
Actually the credit goes to my good friend.

Every country has the government it deserves.

Joseph de Maistre

I clearly remember hanging out with Joe down by the schoolyard back in the 1700s when he told me that. :) Was a long time ago and I was much younger then but I remember it quite clearly. We were drinking wine at the time.

Yes, I am retired, and there are two of us in the household. We still have to take risks to meet our basic needs. Maybe we just have a lucky star.

Same here. Despite a stream of stuff from Amazon I make trips to the super market, home improvement stores and local deli and bakeries. Dare I say we even went out to dinner a few weeks ago. While we are cautious we are not about to become prisoners in our own home. :)

Oh how I do miss eating out at some of my favorite local restaurants... One of the highlights of having to go to Savannah or Jacksonville for doctoring was getting to have a nice lunch at an excellent restaurant! Fast food drive thru takeout just doesn't cut it and gets old real fast.

There will always be some knucklehead acting the fool for some petty reason while endangering lives.

I expect to see thousands of students in quarantine or isolation because non-N95 masks and social distancing protocols are becoming less effective in preventing the spread of the delta virus with current levels of community spread in low vaccination areas. The unvaccinated teacher case proves the need for teacher vaccination and for much better ventilation in schools. Bad HVAC and horrible air-quality in schools is unfortunately a common factor in many cases of large scale school infection.

https://www.nea.org/advocating-for-...ventilation-must-be-addressed-reopening-plans
In fact, the U.S. Government Accountability Office said in a report in June that to prevent the spread of the coronavirus when inside schools, more than 41 percent of school districts need to update or replace their heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems in at least half of their buildings.

It’s an unlikely proposition, says Fay’s colleague Kevin Enos, a Franklin, Mass. science teacher and fellow member of MTA’s Environmental Health and Safety Committee.

“Older buildings make up the lion’s share in Massachusetts, as they do in many areas around the U.S., and schools just don’t have the financial resources to fix them,” Enos says. “It’s not a question of the willingness of districts, it’s about the financial ability. The federal, state, and local governments are not putting in the money necessary, but I am sure they wouldn’t want go to work in a building with this kind of air quality.”

Fay agrees. She says it’s “appalling” what we expect students and staff to endure in terms of building quality, yet with schools so drastically underfunded year after year, HVAC systems are not at the top of the list for investment.

For years, students in older buildings have contended with mold, leaky ceilings, and frequent colds and flu as well as increased asthma rates from poor air circulation and lethargy from high CO2 levels.

N-95 masks are as rare as rooster eggs... Most are nothing more than a piece of easily breathable cloth with elastic to hold them "up" at least over the mouth. For panache include an embroidered slogan de jeur to enhance the effect. At least they give the impression of being "masked" while being totally useless decorations.

I’m a evil Grampa, I’m not going to subject myself to my non Vax Daughter + Children. Back to school and into the COVID Fray. But, hey. I’m protecting myself as much as possible until I get my 3rd Vax, just saying. She doesn’t know yet, but I’m busy and no cannot do this or that until then.

I’ll also inform her I received my 3rd.
