I keep potassium permanganate and glycerin in my survival kit as a handy incendiary and it also works great to ignite thermite. I used to get it at pharmacies, but no place seems to carry it any more.
We had an iron filter at home when I was a kid, right along side the water softener. The iron filter was recharged with potassium permanganate. I have no idea if it’s still available for that purpose but we bought pounds of it.

Anyway, it’s great for flash powder. I extracted aluminum powder from printing press ink colorant and mixed it with finely ground permanganate. I don’t recall if I also used sulfur. Probably. Anyway, a few grams would easily split logs in a very exciting way!

I had never heard of it being used for water treatment like that. It looks like that still is a major use. Since it is quite toxic if consumed, how does the recharge process prevent any significant amounts making it into the drinking water? I know it is used as a disinfectant for drinking water, but you've got to be careful not to use too much.

In looking up information I came across a factoid on Wikipedia that in developing countries it costs about 1 US cent per gram, but it costs the NHS in the U.K. 1.33 pounds per gram (~$1.75 U.S.). A quick check of Amazon shows that, in 100g to 500g quantities, it is between 10 US cents to 20 US cents per gram.

You should be raided and several (not all) of those weapons should be confiscated and destroyed.

Just sayin’
I go shooting with the local cops who have much better personal lockers than mine. Oregon is a full-auto state so I do need suppressors but can't justify the cost..

It's like salt in a water softener, it is used to recharge the bed and then rinsed off in the backflush before cycling back to the potable water line.

Thanks. I've never had to use a water softener so I have no idea of the mechanics. We are lucky -- our well water is wonderful and only has a sediment screen, which went a decade before needing to be back flushed.

Ok, checklist.

1. 200 pounds of Toilet Paper.
2. 350 gallons of water.
3. 400 gallons of hand sanitizer.
4. 10,000 rounds of bullets.
5. Buy more Guns just in case.
6. Get some stuff to make gun powder, and explosives.
7. Am I missing anything?

kv

Edit: Idiot Check list - see the above.

I went to Costco to get some Toilet Paper and they are rationing it like it’s the Zombie Apocalypse. Dumb Asses would be my Critical Analysts.

Considering the standard COSTCO package is 48 rolls with 22,560 sheets, maybe now is the time to panic? Do we need a COSTCO TP index?

A better explanation than I than I have time to write.
He was doing pretty good until he said Sonny Perdue was the governor of Mississippi. Governors do not particularly like people selling $2 bags of ice to their constituents for $100 after a hurricane. They'd rather garner votes by having the State National Guard give it away free along with potable water. Same with TP and Hand Cleanser.
