Around here rubbing alcohol has been wiped clean from retailer's shelves, much like toilet paper in other parts of the world (toilet paper is known as "tissue" here and found on restaurant tables and in few bathooms in homes because there is an alternate and more hygenic method, but I digress). Fortunately there is plenty of a slightly lower percentage of ethanol solution in plentiful supply. The good part is that if there is any left over when this is over...there is another use.

Accurate? I would question any numbers currently from any source.
I've been following the deaths because the bulk are close to me. So when I see more deaths reported in any state, I update my tally.

The news is reporting 17 deaths, 2 recent in Florida. CDC is 11 and it hasn't been 11 for days.

Pretty easy to say. Have you lost anything as a result of this? Sometimes something booked months in advance gets cancelled and people can lose some serious money. Helping out is one thing, taking a finical hit personally is a different thing all together. How's your investment portfolio looking lately? Losing any money as a result of paranoid and hysteria?

Believe me, I understand where you are coming come. However, if you are cancelling a trip, you are not losing money. The money has already been spent. You are losing the "something" which was cancelled. If I spent $10,000 to go to the Super Bowl and could not go because I got sick or my boss told me to work "or else", I lost out on the Super Bowl not $10,000. As for my investments, they are doing just fine. Check out this graph. So far, the hit is comparable to the 2018 end of year dip. Finally, yes, the (probable) pandemic sucks but it cannot be ignored and people should not expect for things to be "as usual" for a few months. It will pass and everything will go back to "normal".

All of my accounts have taken a hit. Even my high yield on-line savings; they just lowered interest to 1.3% APR (from 1.8). That's still 10-20 times more than what my bank pays.

Have the recommended 6 months living expenses in cash and food/supplies to last at least several weeks (always do). My IRA needs to sell to keep up with my withdrawals, but my stock account and house (paid off) are worth more than my IRA. The wealth manager wanted to manage my stock portfolio, but I'm doing better than he is with the IRA. More risk allows more gain.

Reporting of the situation in real-time from the public on social media could lead to more accurate collating of information by the media. However, the rapid pace of developments, increasing case detection rates, along with increasing diversity of information mean it has become increasingly difficult for the media to assimilate and make meaningful interpretations from this information source. Moreover, the volume of information being reported to and by global public health authorities exceeds the capacity to collate and analyse it, or to cross-reference and verify with other data received. This inability to validate information can fuel speculation, and thereby lead to media and public concern.
The balance between providing the information required for appropriate actions in response to risk and providing information that fuels inappropriate actions is delicate. The global media response to 2019-nCoV remains unbalanced, largely due to the continuously evolving developments and, as a result, public perception of risk remains exaggerated.

I have just enjoyed a meal at a Chinese restaurant.
I was thinking about taking my Wife to a new Chinese restaurant for her birthday. Now I'm not going out unless I have to. Don't know who it was, but they recommended that people aged 60+ not go out unless they have to. Under the circumstances, I consider going out for birthday celebrations to be optional.

Rescuers race to save 30 people still trapped in collapsed five-star hotel in China being used to quarantine coronavirus victims
That hotel was only 2 years old. Apparently it's a common problem. Shoddy workmanship (paid off inspectors?) during a construction boom.

There's too much conflicting information. The CDC seems to be the least reliable source because they're always a day behind. Either because they're trying to suppress bad information or they're incompetent. How much time would it take to update their statistics in real time???
I think the thing with the CDC, and I am not in any CDC fan club is whatever they do release they want it to be valid. You and I know if they released bad dope we would be in front of the line calling for their heads. There is also no shortage of bad and conflicting information out there right now leaving people as to who or what to believe.
