Key Points
Question What proportion of persons in 10 US sites had detectable antibodies to severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) from March 23 to May 12, 2020?

Findings In this cross-sectional study of 16 025 residual clinical specimens, estimates of the proportion of persons with detectable SARS-CoV-2 antibodies ranged from 1.0% in the San Francisco Bay area (collected April 23-27) to 6.9% of persons in New York City (collected March 23-April 1). Six to 24 times more infections were estimated per site with seroprevalence than with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) case report data.

Meaning For most sites, it is likely that greater than 10 times more SARS-CoV-2 infections occurred than the number of reported COVID-19 cases; most persons in each site, however, likely had no detectable SARS-CoV-2 antibodies.

Hmmm... Florida less than GA and AL??? Doesn't seem right if by per 100,000. In fact FL way down on the list? Doesn't live up to all the hype it's getting in the news.

The news seems to be focused on "new cases," which is strongly influenced by testing practices. Deaths are less affected by those practices, but still affected by screwballs who overcount.

Of course, with Alaska's "2," it seems silly to define a "surge."

Scores of Russia’s business and political elite have been given early access to an experimental vaccine against Covid-19, according to people familiar with the effort, as the country races to be among the first to develop an inoculation.

Top executives at companies including aluminum giant United Co. Rusal, as well as billionaire tycoons and government officials began getting shots developed by the state-run Gamaleya Institute in Moscow as early as April, the people said. They declined to be identified as the information isn’t public.

From a dutch paper:

Infections in the United States have increased rapidly since the first case was discovered on January 21.
After 98 days, the country was at 1 million cases.
It took another 43 days to reach 2 million and then 27 days to reach 3 million.
It took just 16 days to reach 4 million at a rate of 43 new cases per minute.

That's the US as a whole but really, the US is 50 separate state sovereigns where the cases, deaths, sickness rates and government responses are mainly a factor of population density and local factors.

Effective at 6 P.M. today the wearing of a mask becomes mandatory. No clue what the penalty is for not wearing a mask out in public is? Maybe they take away your birthday?

In Ohio it is a fine. A measure was passed to set a maximum, but the governor vetoed it.
Violating the order is considered a misdemeanor, with penalties of up to 30 days behind bars and a $750 fine. DeWine has repeatedly said the intention is not to arrest people, but rather to make mask-wearing the norm.

Of course, like red-light cameras, not all people pay their fines and courts are reluctant to enforce them against those who plead indigent.

It hasn't been tested yet to my knowledge. Seems ironic that criminals are let out of jail because of Covid-19 too.

:) Did you catch the story about people calling 911 to report others not wearing a mask? Go figure.

I can’t find it, but there was a story about a woman who disregarded the law and the sign, who went maskless to pick up a take out pizza order. She went full out <derogatory word deleted> because they wouldn’t serve her. The owners offered to bring her order to her if she went outside, but that didn’t calm her down. She eventually was arrested and spent the night in jail over a pizza. The owner installed a doorbell and won’t open the door if the customers aren’t wearing a mask.
