Someday Al, if you can get out there with a well planned trip, rather than a window seat at 30,000 feet do a well planned drive cross country. Just do it during the summer months. :) Much of the scenery is absolutely breathtaking. Anyway, glad things seem to be coming together for her. There are likely some issues well out of our areas of expertise. These things are best left to those with experience in their chosen fields of study.

Hi,

Well when i was younger i might have thought about doing something like that, but at my age it would be too stressful i think not just for me biut for my car :) I have been restoring it to hopefully enter into the car show we have here once a year, but i am not sure it could take a 3000 mile trip there and 3000 mile trip back. I think my insurance plan is only up to 7000 miles too so would soon have to pay a penalty not sure how much at the moment.
Interesting idea though would be beautiful to see all that.
Thanks.

You could do a Train Trip, I think it was @nsaspook or @spinnaker that was talking about them. Once your in a location just rent a car to visit sites in the area, then book another ride to another location, I think?

Hi,

That's an interesting idea too, but as i think about that and other site seeing ideas, i realize that nothing else in this world is as wonderful as being with her and hearing about what she is doing and seeing her artwork, so i would just be anxious to get there the whole time. The mistake i made last time was i did not take many pictures because i didnt want to seem invasive to her world in a manner of speaking, but i am sure she would let me take pictures of some of the artwork like in her den which is just amazing. I dont publish anything so it's not like i am the paparazzi or anything.
On the way back i'd probably want to just get home and back to my main business.
She did ask me to move in with her though, so that might be a possibility too maybe i'll never come back :)
That would be great probably the greatest thing that ever happened in my life, but i have a lot of stuff to move out there unless i sell everything first. That's what some friends did a while back when they moved out there. Sold all furniture and anything else that wasnt tied down. I think they had their car shipped out there.
Thanks.

Hello again quick question..

I have a belt now where the buckle is tough plastic. However, there is a zipper inside.
The zipper is i guess for money but it is so narrow i doubt i could fit anything in there, and although the zipper teeth that form the mesh are made of plastic too the tab that you pull to open and close the zipper is made of aluminum It's very small though about 5/8 inch long and it is very light weight and thin metal.

Question is, i wonder if it would make it past the metal detector machine used in airports that you walk though?

Depends on the detector. In Cleveland and many other places that have "millimeter" scanners. They can detect a piece of paper in your shirt pocket that is not attached to your skin tightly. I know. So, when they say take everything off and out of your pockets, they mean it.

Hey Al, yes, sounds like what is commonly called a money belt. A friend of mine had one. You would be surprised when you fold over a bill lengthwise twice how well they fit.

That's my thinking exactly. Remove the belt and everything else they want removed and let them run it through their machine. Nothing says you can't carry cash. :)

You can carry cash. No law against that. But, like a piece of paper I had in my right front pocket, it will be detected and you may (I was) pulled aside for additional screening.

No big deal, except for being pulled aside. Those screeners are a far cry from the old fashioned metal detectors. But, not every airport has them yet.

That’s why you take off your belt. Makes going through security easier. When you take the belt off, they can see that it’s a money belt and that will be that. It’s when you forget to take stuff off your body, the it gets harder. A re-screen and perhaps a manual body scan. Put the belt on the belt and save yourself some grief.

And don’t worry about someone taking your money. There are more cameras there than anywhere else in the airport.

Yes, I've been wanded for such things as steel-toed work dress shoes, ink pens, metal foil on a cigarette pack, tin of Altoids, etc. that set the alarms off in the past. Last time they made me put the walking stick I use to get around these days through their machine. They at least gave me their cane while it was being scanned. I was surprised (I checked beforehand) they let me board with a 5' walking stick and had someplace onboard to stow it since it won't fit the overhead bin. Luckily the titanium brace in my neck and the various bits of surgical metal scattered about don't set their alarms off. They do make me get out of their wheelchair and teeter through their full-body scanner without a cane but it seems like a make-show formality so they look like they are doing their job for the other passengers.

Hi,

Thanks for all of the replies.

Option Question #1:
Well how about if i broke off the little metal piece?
I dont need that feature anyway, but even if i did i could replace it with a strong piece of string that i could pull or just pull on the little plastic part that will remain. Heck, i could cut the whole zipper out.

Option Question #2
How about if i get a belt with absolutely no metal in it?
