I went in to see the new IBM Computer store here when they opened and was quite impressed with the build out. Classy, dark, with spot lighting on the hardware for sale, and suit clad salesmen. Watched them sell one fellow his IBM 5150 to run his small business with. They loaded him up with the 16kB computer, keyboard, monochrome monitor, single external 5-1/4" single sided floppy disk drive, box of disks, PC DOS, printer, tractor feed paper, and dBase for a whopping sum of money ensuring him he had everything he needed to run his business. He walked out extremely happy that now he could "computerize" his business. I would have loved to have met him a few weeks later after he had maybe assembled all the hardware, figured out how to load the operating system, enter in the date and time, and probably never figured out just what this dBase software did that was going to "computerize" his business. The store didn't last a year if I remember correctly.

Off the books. IMO this guy is a creation. Nobody gets TS clearance with such BS not being found.

A former senior CIA official with top secret-level clearance is accused of stealing hundreds of gold bars worth more than $40 million from the federal government and stashing them in his home.

David Rush was arrested and charged with criminal theft of public money last week, according to federal court filings in Virginia, where he lives.

From November to March, Rush requested and received a “significant quantity of foreign currency and tens of millions of dollars in gold bars for work-related expenses,” according to an affidavit from an FBI agent investigating the case.

CIA officer arrested with gold bars accused of making up top secret program, sources say
David Rush is under investigation on suspicion of creating a fake spy program and persuaded others to take part, resulting in the CIA transferring large amounts of money to the sham project, sources say

The fictional program was supposed to involve contingency plans to keep the government operating in the event of a nuclear war or other dire emergency, two of the people said.

Rush is suspected of having a government defense contractor purchase large amounts of gold, based on the allegedly fraudulent contract, the person said.

There is no indication so far that Rush was acting on behalf of a foreign power, according to one of the people with knowledge of the case and three others who also had knowledge of the case.

Clearly the guy has mental problems and did not have any malicious intent. I hope that they try to get him the help he needs, but that they also consider whether he represents an unacceptable risk to society and perhaps should be in a suitable institution, at least temporarily. Maybe he does and maybe he doesn't.
