LEWISTON, N.Y. (WIVB) — A 54-year-old woman was rescued from the lower Niagara River on Sunday morning despite refusing Coast Guard help and threatening to kill anyone who approached her, according to U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

Around 4:30 a.m. the Coast Guard and several agencies responded to a report of a woman on a homemade raft in the river.

Authorities say Border Patrol Agents “maneuvered to initiate a rescue due to the freezing water and air temperatures after they discovered the woman located only 50 yards from the shore.” The woman, a U.S. citizen who was not named, refused to return to shore despite numerous requests.

It is kind of sad though. The poor guy ended being arrested and maybe even slightly injured in the process. I'm not faulting anyone here. It's just disturbing to think that this is what society has "evolved" into. I mean wouldn't it be great if instead of this story we could read something more like "Cops take stroll with man on his Walk of Shame"? People just don't seem to know how to interact anymore. What a shame...

It hasnt even reached a peak yet. What is sad is that people offended and seeking special treatment have no idea where this is leading. Those who do know where this is going have no idea how to stop it.

I think there are so many people now wondering about struggling with self-acceptance and it is sad, really sad. It is sad because to love and accept others you must first learn to love and accept yourself. What kind of future lies ahead?
