Betamax ... Not useless. It was replaced in the marketplace by something better.

It may be useless today, but by your standard, all electronics devices are useless at some future time. That includes every piece you own.

I'm trying to think of an electronic gadget that would be truly useless, and I can't come up with one.

A battery operated device is uslessu if you have no batteries ... Useless being defined as the ability to do the designrd function. They are still good as weapons.

Hello everyone!
Mario here from Zagreb, Croatia.
Over the past few years I really got interested in electronics, and over the past few months I've been doing lots of research and sort of studying online as well as buying myself some basic tools and equipment to get me started. I'm a real greenhorn in this area so I might be the one here who might drive people crazy with idiotic questions and ideas. But, please, give me a break for a while, I think I learn quite fast. :)
Anyway, my next step is (of course) to build a variable bench power supply as I did salvage some parts for it so I think I'll start lurking around for some topics about that and hopefully keep you posted if anyone will be interested. Any directions here will be much appreciated.
I'm really looking forward to being a part of this community! :)
PS
Sorry for my bad english...

Hello everyone, first I introduce myself as an electronics engineer, after a long time working and not especially in what I study, now I have time to recover my knowledge and my passion for electronics, which for work issues I had left aside , I would love to learn from all of you.
Greetings.

I should have an EE degree in 2019 from a Wisconsin uni. I may want to become a patent attorney after working in the industry. Near the end of my graduation I thought I was going to start learning a new language on my own. Now I'm set on learning Python--and from there, who knows. (Mostly work with MATLAB and C/Arduino.)

I am also a part of the Effective Altruism movement (which is about smart charity, and basically opportunity cost). With that, since there are a lot of vegans in the movement, I became vegetarian in 2017. My primary cause area is to lessen absolute/extreme poverty. Even though the developing world needs raw infrastructure (civil engineering). I believe MOOCs are something that can have a positive effect on the third world. And so, I am highly interested in free 3G technology. In other words, bring nearly free internet to places like Kenya, Ghana, etc.

Hello, Everyone!
My name is Vex and I am new here.
I am aviation engineer not working in my field... :p
Hope, I will get something new to learn more about circuit boards here.

Hey all! I'm Ian, and I'm a high school student studying electronics engineering at my school (I go to a trade school). Once I get out I'm going for a PhD in theoretical particle physics.

When it comes to electronics, I am all about analogue synths and audio equipment. They're all a combination of most of my favorite things.

Hello World!
I've been into Electronics for the thick end of 50 years, but I've been out of the mainstream since 1991 due to being made redundant. I work repairing Electronic Medical gear in one of the major hospitals in Edinburgh, Scotland, which bores me rigid! I don't care, as I'm retiring in early July next year!
In a previous position in my department, I managed to (legally!) acquire a good 2-beam oscilloscope and a 3-line PSU (+5V, ±15V). (I ...err...'acquired' a Digital Multimeter in 1991!) Also, after I left that same position, they had a sort-out of the Electronics Lab, and threw out 5 big boxes of chips - mostly analog chips and digital IC's in the 74 and 4000 series. I got them as well!
When retirement reaches me, I'll be returning to my Electronic roots by building circuits I've collected over the years and some of my own designs.
I 'specialise' in non-processor electronics. I've never fully understood processors & controllers, nor the software associated with it.

Any questions?
