I’ve played MegaMillions
and won, I'd buy a winery on the west coast of California where most of the time the breeze is "off shore". For those who may think it's a breeze that blows from the land to the ocean - sorry, you normally refer to where the wind is coming from. Off shore means a lot less likely to be getting inundated with smoke from wild fires and people and their airborne virus spewing spittle. Build an "off grid" house. Build it with a huge fire break so that when the Santa Anna's start to blow (hot winds out of the desert, an "east" wind) I stand a chance to not be burned out.

Ah for the sake of dreaming! If I'm going to dream I'm going to dream big. Buy the Starship Enterprise and find an M-class planet of my own.

It seems that in Sunnyvale and San Jose it blew out into the bay in the morning and chilled air blew back onto the peninsula at night so even in the middle of summer you had to go home in the evening and get your jacket (as a youngster).

Grew up in Los Angeles. Hung out at San Onofre, Tressel's, Port Hueneme, Laguna, Newport, Huntington, Seal Beach, San Clemente, Bolsa Chica, Malibu; to name what I can recall. Then there was the mountains Arrowhead Lake and Big Bear. Did some smoking up on top of Mount Baldy. Rollerskating in Tustin CA. Tripped up to Santa Barbara once to surf a storm. Found a cove where waves came in from the north west that crossed from the typical south west swells. You could surf and tack back and forth and actually get further out from the shore. Had a memorable trip that year. We didn't have enough gas money to get home. Handed the gas station attendant a $5.00 and asked for Regular. He put the hose in and began to daydream while the tank filled. Eric and I just sat there quietly as he filled our tank. Back then gas was between 55¢ and 80¢ a gallon - memory is really vague. We laughed the entire way home. The morning of the trip was marked by what I would say was the STUPIDEST THING I'VE EVER DONE - - - 140MPH with surfboards on the roof. The speedo went up to 120MPH but we buried the needle. Maybe 130, but we were going like lleh. Brand new highway (i60), no traffic, Saturday morning. Put Eric's life at risk as well as mine and anyone else who got in the way. We passed one car.

You mean it will end? So far I have watched countless bars and restaurants suffer a long slow death, thank you governor. I am done waiting for it to end. I plan to live whatever life I have remaining by enjoying it. Day after endless day on the news it's COVID, COVID and then more COVID. I am done with all of it and am not waiting for the government to tell me it's done. There is no done.

It's done when Covid can be treated like a nasty form of the flu. People will be dying from it from now on. Those who refuse to vaccinate are contenders for the Darwin Awards.

The End Is Near, as the prophets of doom prophesy. In this case, hopefully, the Vax will end or at least slow it down. Gonna be a few months here in the US for all of us to get Vaxed. Masking and Social Distancing may be with us for a long time? Just like my yearly Flu shot, I will have to add the chinese death flu to the mix or be willing to suffer the consequences to myself and others. My oldest aunt is turning 100 this year and hopefully, we can all get together with her to celebrate as a family. We've put off visiting her for over a year due to the pandemic.

Those who ignore caution are bound to learn the hard way that they should have heeded the warnings. The Spanish flu passed as have other plagues. This is what earth does - it cleanses the weak, old and weak minded. Unfortunately some of those who have suffered have done so at the ignorance of others who thought to themselves 'Covid won't be that bad for me.' OK, maybe not. But for those who you infect ? ? ?

The only way to beat Covid is to BEAT it. Beat it soundly. Half measures only leave the virus to fly up in our faces again and again. It's like Shaka Zulu said - 'Never leave an enemy or one day he will fly in your face.' A similar quote is in "The Art of War."

shaka zulu never leave an enemy behind
  • `Never leave an enemy behind, or it will rise again to fly at your throat.'' Such was the pragmatic philosophy of a despotic Zulu king and shrewd military tactician named Shaka, who, in the early 19th Century, crushed neighboring tribes in South East Africa, as the area was known at the time, and incorporated them into his own.

The title reads "What are you planning to do after this lockdown ends".

When can we get back to normal? When can we get back to what life was before COVID-19?

For me, taking that approach is not an option. No one can predict when this is going to be over.

I celebrate one day at a time.

I quote what others have said, "The next 20 years will be very different from the previous 20 years".
Now we should edit that to: "The next year will be very different from the previous year!"

This is the new normal. We need to carry on with life under the new normal and not wait for some miracle to happen.

Africa is already claiming strains of COVID which seem immune to vaccination. Strike, counter strike like Deja Vue all over again. Don't know about Texas but vaccine rollout is going very slow here in Ohio and I forget how many doses were destroyed because the doses were incorrectly stored. About all I am seeing is government screw up after screw up. Personally come June I have beach plans and unlike last year I plan to get there and enjoy it, COVID or not.

Well, I did get to take a couple of trips in my boat offshore fishing before things started heating up again. Hopefully, after the vax kicks in we'll be able to go again regularly. Used to go once or twice a month until I had my cancerous kidney removed and then other health issues came along. Looking forward to getting back out there again.

Sam, how does COVID keep you from getting out fishing? Hell, I would think fishing offshore would not be affected much. Know the deal with kidney cancer. Wife's left kidney was disintegrating when they took it out (the pieces they could) about 10 years ago. Two years ago it resurfaced in her lungs and ate through her right femur bone. Currently it's all under control. Anyway get out there fishing and enjoy!

Biggest problem is interfacing with all the people fueling, icing, hanging around the marina, and launching the boat on the lift. None of which mask or make any attempt to social distance. That, and finding people to go with me. Usually, I like to take 4 of us and always at least Cuz'n Dave my Bosun who has our 94-year-old aunt at home to also protect. Boat capacity is 8 but 4 guys bottom fishing or trolling is a boatful. Going 25 miles offshore is at least $100-150 a trip just for fuel and it helps to spread the trip expense with others. Covid has really started hitting this area hard. No surprise since most folks around here think it's a joke and don't mask up, don't social distance, and love to crowd into the local small restaurants and bars. It had started to slack off in the fall when I did go offshore but now it's about 1 person in 15-20 with it in our county. Lots of obits... Lots of folks recovering... Even so, the locals still don't get it. Lots of poverty and ignorance here.

OK, I know the drill. Years ago we were running a 30" 1964 Cris Craft Cavalier Express out of Morehead City NC and yes, about a 30 mile ride to get out over the continental shelf and the big fish. In your case I never gave much thought to things like marina people and such around before you get the boat even wet. :( Hang tight and you will be out there this spring & summer.

Georgia is the westernmost East coast State. It's 7 miles of marsh and islands from the marina to the beach. ~7 miles of bars and shoals from the beach to the outer bar and then ~30' water depth. Then it's another 100 miles to the shelf and ~100'+ depth. That's where the big Wahoo, Tuna, Dolphin, Swordfish, etc. are. Mostly sand with some very few scattered spots of low relief live bottom of "coral", Gray's Reef National Marine Sanctuary (most of which has been closed to fishing), several old Navy communication tower platforms that have been abandoned, and several artificial reefs of old boats/barges/ships, bridge rubble, pallet balls, NY subway cars, and such. Long ways out to the shelf here. I've been maybe 35-45 miles out to a tower on a very good day with less than 1' seas. Usually 2-3' seas and hit Gray's Reef 25 miles out or one of the closer in artificial reefs or live bottoms, any more than that I stay home. Black Bass, Sheepshead, Spiny Dogfish sharks bottom fishing in the winter and when the water temp gets up above 70 the King and Spanish Mackerels, Barracudas, Hammerheads, Amberjacks, and Cobia come in and we start trolling live Pogies and Cigar Minnows for them. King's get up 50 lbs but the biggest has been 39lbs so far. I've seen Tiger Sharks bigger than my 20' boat out there and Right Whales. I love it out there...

Hi Ron,

That's interesting, and that is exactly the same state of mind i had back in November. I flew to Los Angeles (6 hour flight going there) despite the lockdowns and school closings and talk talk talk about covid covid covid and i just couldnt wait anymore. I almost felt like it would be better to die off then to put up with the isolation the constant threats on the news cause. I just couldnt wait any longer.
But in reality i realized also that it's not a death sentence it is just the risk of death. Many people survive but we are not hearing much about that on the fake news.

the fake news.
On February 26, 2020 President Trump boasted that the coronavirus was about to disappear altogether from the United States. “You have 15 people, and the 15 within a couple of days is going to be down to close to zero,” he insisted.

A reporter asked him April 28, 2020 how that prediction is holding up, given that the United States now has surpassed 1 million confirmed coronavirus cases. Trump insisted he had been right all along. “Well, it will go down to zero, ultimately,”

The original promise of cases going down to zero has basically been fulfilled, just that the timeline for going down to zero has been slightly extended from a couple days to “sometime before all life on Earth ceases to exist.” Oh, and on the way to zero, we’re going to have trillions of dollars in economic damages and more deaths than a major war, details Trump didn’t get around to mentioning originally. Other than that, mission accomplished!

I'm personally aware of several shops that have gone out of business in my general vicinity. People who've put their lives into their businesses have now lost those businesses. Mortgages continue to be due while renters are struggling to pay the rent. With a moratorium on evictions, home owners are getting deeper and deeper into trouble.

I don't believe printing more money is the answer. If everyone was suddenly given a check for 10 million dollars then the cost of a loaf of bread would skyrocket. Exactly what the answer is - I don't know. But one thing for sure is that we have to get this virus under control as fast as possible. And the quote you quoted is a quote I quoted. It's not directly my words, but my willingness to quote them suggests I don't entirely disagree with it. May not be "Trillions" but it is certainly going to be a very costly figure. The likes of which long term affects will be felt for many many years.

I respect your opinion, even if it is not in line with mine. This is one of our fundamental moral rights - to agree or to disagree.

Where's the damage? What it means is that more money is manufactured out of thin air to stuff the pockets of the "medical industrial complex".
Enter the elephant. People are writing checks with their egos alone and no money to cash the checks. Great, great grandchildren I will never know will be picking up the tab for all this. They just keep printing money.
